New Room HELP WITH LIGHTING... Possible Heat issue.... Unsure

Tired of seeing the light from under the door everynight, I made a grow box. Its made of 2x3's

6' tall - 6' long and 2' wide

it is a wood frame with a 13/56 wood floor. all the walls are made of 1/2 inch R-tech Insulfoam.
( White side with print is facing out and the reflective metalic side face into my grow box.

The door is 4 ft wide and is made of triple stiched canvas hanging from top of the frame.


With that,
I have 4 plants in theis room I just out from under 4 floresent 4' tube lights on 20 on 4 off.

I put them in the new box with a newly purchased 1000w HPS it hangs roughly 5'6" from the bottom of the box and the plants are a rough 4 feet from the light.

the plants where in the box for around six hours the other night before I checked on them, I noticed that the light was 2 much for them and that they where wilted pretty bad and a lot of the leaves where very badly dried and crumbled on touch.

I changed back to the floresents and I would like to know what I need to do to make this 1000w hps work....

its a batwing hood on the light i have a 3 speed desk fan in the box blowing air around and a celing fan in the room it is in on high...

when i opened the door to the room it did seem like it was very warm in the room and the heat seemed to hit me in the face when i moved the canvas door.

What is your ambient temperature, and what do you have to combat the hot air from the light getting directly to the plants? In other words, can you exchange the air in your room in 5 minutes or less, if the air your bringing in a moderate or cool temperature, and do you have a fan blowing directly on the light, or between the light and the canvas to break up those heat waves.

1 picture of your entire box. Pictures of any ventilation (fans, exhaust, duscting, where its going, where its coming in from, etc.). Picture the thermometer or record your environmental data (humidity, temp, etc), your PPM/PH if you think that could be a problem, show us exactly how far the light is from the canopy, and really anything else you can think of that might or might not help us get an idea of what's going on there. You cannot give us too many details!

Hey man you need some serious ventilation and fast! For that 1k light in that space you need an air cooled hood on it's own duct exhausting outside of the room the box is in. That will start to get you there, then you need another inline for your carbon scrubber to clean the smelly air and also circulate the air in the box. I would also recommend a couple of oscillating fans on each end since your box is longer than wide.

As recommended above I would get a couple thermometors in order to get high/low temp readings at the light level and the canopy level. I hope this helps, good luck and happy growing.

First things first i think you should start with getting an Intake vent sorted.. noticed you didnt say anything about having one.. pretty dang important, otherwise wheres all that hot air gonna go?

Yesterday I called the local indoor supply store and he clued me in on something I overlooked... my walls are 1/2 insulation foam sheets...

Purchased some 5 mil panda poly, 2 inline fans, a mini ac unit ( if the fans don't work) some ducting and a new digital thermometer/humidity unit.

I should be replacing the insulation walls and putting the poly with the fans...

The way the guy at the shop was talking this should help a ton.

and I have 2 inline fans i can add to help get rid of the heat.... Question is will this work??

Well if your wanting to put a 1000 watts in that cab I'd seriously think about getting an air cooled hood and a real inline fan capable of at least 450 CFM. I mean you've made it this far, don't let an extra 200 to 250 bucks stop you from achieving your goals. I understand if money is tight but I'm telling you from experience that those booster fans are not gonna cut it. Not trying to be rude but rather laying out the hard cold facts.

First I'd cut a six inch hole near the bottom left or right side of your cab whichever you prefer for an intake. Then cut a six inch hole near the top on the opposite side for your exhaust. Next install air cooled hood in the center. Next install vortex fan near the top right side. Install it so the fan will be pulling the cool air through hood. Now hook it all up together with your flex, straight pipe or both which ever you prefer. Doing this will drastically lower the temps in your cab.

Now after you have that all done and set up proper you can use those booster fans you bought and use them for a fresh air intake and a fresh air/heat exhaust. Mount one near the bottom left next to your fresh air intake for the hood and the other one mount top right next to the exhaust for you hood. One fan will be pulling fresh air in at the bottom and the other will be pulling said air and heat out from the top.

Seriously with that space and that light you might just be able to pull this off. But, I see no other way of doing this without an air cooled hood and real vortex fan. The heat from that 1000 watter is just gonna be to much for that space.

What if i just contiune with the cfls? add a like 4 more floresent tubes to the equation?

then get a 400 watt cooled hood, or even a 600 during the next grow?....

Sure that would work as well. I know a few growers on here that have pretty good results with cfl's and fluorescents.
