If I just grew a single plant and kept it 1.5 ft would that still stink the place out?
Hard to say.

First of all, its pretty tough to get a plant to be only 1.5 ft high. It typically takes 3 months (or more) to go from seed to end of flowering, they generally like to stretch out during flowering, and will want to grow in that time period. Plus your pot imposes a minimum height too. If you want a plant that small you'll have to work at it by starting with a small pot, doing extensive pruning/training and/or special dwarf genetics. Obviously yield on a small plant will be small.

Some plants are more "stinky" than others. The small powerful strains actually tend to be pretty odoriferous, working against you. The amount of scent is going to be proportionate to the amount of buds in any case.

If you're only growing one small plant, then its a lot easier to contain or cover up the scent, but make no mistake, even one relatively small plant WILL give off a significant and potentially detectable odor especially when at the end of flowering.

Guys. Would 2 of these be enough for a single plant for the veg phase?

If not How many?
Yes, 90 watts of compact fluorescent should be adequate for a small single-plant grow from seed all the way through the end of flowering. You'd want to mount the bulbs horizontally and use good reflectors for max light projection onto the plants. Ventilation will be necessary to cool the heat from these in a small box.

Yes I am a Brit. Amsterdam now there's a thought. I went through Belgium once by train on the way to Denmark and the customs was almost non existent. How much is weed in Da Dam?
Its been a few years since I've been there, so you can probably get a better and more specific answer from some other posters here who have been there more recently.

Weed there isn't actually as cheap as you might think; the coffeeshops mostly cater to rich tourists.

I'd expect to pay not less than 7 or 8 Euros a gram for good weed, more if you're into the top shelf stuff. On the other hand, the stuff in the shops is pretty damn strong. . .a few puffs and you're done. Usually smokers there mix it with tobacco to dilute it, something that Americans typically don't do.

Some shops won't let you buy less than 3 grams at a time, so there may be a minimum amount you can buy. You can always shop around.

Thanks very much for all your help Jogro. Certainly if I'm going to grow a plant I have to address the smell problem. TBH I think it's a non-starter unless I can get a carbon filter. Do the carbon filters work 100%? Is ALL the smell absorbed?

Done right, yes, you can have no detectable scent, at least not to the average person. Pro-growers will vent the air from gigantic grows involving dozens of huge stinky flowering plants through activated carbon, and you can't smell a thing.

I'd assume a good drug-sniffing dog would still be able to smell it, but that's sort of a different issue. If things got to the point where drug sniffing dogs were rooting around, you'd be busted even if there were zero scent anyway.

Note that there are potentially other ways to reduce/eliminate odor than carbon, but they vary in cost, risk, complexity and efficacy. There is a whole thread here on odor control, and you'll probably learn a lot by reading it.

Thanks again Jogro for your measured and excellent advice.

Lot's of issues for me to address but growing my own plants really appeals to me. I'm going to keep my eyes out for a decent cabinet and take it from there. A friend has offered to give me cuttings to start me off so I don't need to buy seeds so that's some money saved.

If I do sort this out I'll do a journal.
