Kitchen Base Unit for Grow Box. Would it work out?

Do you think a standard kitchen base unit like the one in the link would work well for a grow box? Has anyone tried this?

I know I'd need to get doors and a top for it but do you think it would be easy to customise it in terms of light sealing, ventilation, odour control etc?

Just seems like a cheap way to get going to me. I might even be able to pick up a single unit at the local tip or somewhere for free.

hah $100 for a grow tent? That thing probably has a lot of problems

Would be easy to use. But if you aren't going stealth you can build a grow box to your dimensions with PVC pipe and fittings. Only thing is I can't find the fittings for the corner pieces locally, but amazon sells em really cheap.

$50 for black and white polly
$112 for PVC pipe depending on your thickness
~$10 fittings
$172 and I'm building a 5x5x6.5 tent, that'd cost about $400 to buy a grow tent that size

If it's a stealth type grow you're thinkng of something along those lines looks ideal. I think you're right about checking out the tip,but watch out for MDF.(don't it hate water?)

Thanks lads. I see where you're going with the tent using pvc pipe but it would be hard to disguise. I was going to put the cabinet in the garage and put shit on it so it didn't look out of place. I live in the UK tho and I don't know if the plants would get too cold when the light goes out. On the box thing I think I'll just go down the tip. I've got stuff I need to dump anyway. I'll see if I can find somthing there.

Wish I could dedicate a room to it but it's too on top with family visitors.

Most stuff is MDF now innit. Maybe I can find a nice sized wooden cabinet down the tip and lash it in the back of the motor :)

I reckon you're on to a good idea there. A tatty old kitchen cab in the garage covered in the usual garage crap, nobody's going to suspect that since every garage has an old kitchen carcass in it! Even several running along the wall! MDF shouldn't be too much of a pain if you keep an eye out, and I'm sure something can be done about light-out-winter-temps.
Wish I had a garage now...:-(:-(:-(

One thing that stuck out to me on the unit in your link there, was how the shelf in the middle was recessed from the front. If you wanted to separate the upper and lower areas you would have to work around that short depth shelf which would probably be a pain in the ass.

I think he's going to take the shelving out.(I'm just looking at my kitchen cabs...in the kitchen! lol)

Yeah I would take any shelving and shit out. It's just a blank box. Anyway I went to the local tip today and there were no cabinets at all. They just smash them. But I got this old knackerd plastic filing cabinet type thing. The depth is a bit crap but I reckon I could grow a couple of plants in it. I might use this and see what happens and if it's all good I'll get a kitchen cab for the extra grow space. Saves a few quid like incase it's justr a fad ;)
