UPDATE:
To recap: There were two c99 fems. This is #1 in the flower cab at about 4 weeks. Her sister, #2 got sick early on and is still fighting for her life. More on this drama below.
C99#1 is about 18" high. I had meant her to get bigger but this was my first sativa dom and I only vegged her to 9". From all the grow reports I've read, this strain consistently doubles her size in the stretch.
She looks very good. Not much in the way of fan leaves which looks a little strange to my eye but obviously doing well. I have a bit of yellowing on the lower leaves but that seemed to stop when I added epsom salts and cal mag.
I gave her a couple of shots of bloom inducers, FN Floralicious and Koolbloom.
She is filling in nicely and the leaves are getting quite frosty already. This strain is supposed to give nice yields.
This is my current veg cab setup. I was running 250W of cfls 6500K with a bit of 2700k mixed in. Everything grew nicely with dark leaves and short node spacing but
very slowly. I had this 150W MH kit lying around so I set that up instead and boy did things jump! The plants grew more in a week than they had in the previous month! So fuck CFLs. HID lamps just kick ass. I have a 250W MH ballast kit & bulb on order. The cfl panel went into the flower cab as supplementary side lighting.
I have the light set up in 'low vertical' mode. I plan to convert my flower cab to this style so I thought I would try it here. Seems to be working very well. The element in the bulb is just about level with the plant tops. This way the light is surrounded by plants which is much more efficient than a horizontal bulb with a reflector. A top reflector would improve efficiency but much less than with a horizontal setup. Anyway that is in the works as well as Panda film for the walls.
Clones of C99 #1. For the time being, everything I prune from c99 #1 is made into a clone. For practice and there arent any other plants that need the cloner right now.
On the left is the most mature clone. About 9" ,topped for 5 main branches and LST'ed. I plant to get her upt to 12" before putting her in the flower cab. To her right is another clone a few weeks behind.
Last picture on the right is a tray of small plants with a couple of c99#1 clones, the Big Laughing and Syrup seedlings ( I will report on those in another post. )
Here is my mini bubble cloner. The plugs are 1.5". When roots appear they go into jiffy plugs sitting in 1.5" net pots. When the roots come out the side, they get planted in a 3" airpot (front left in the rightmost picture above). This was another of my DIY projects that took too long and cost more than it would have to buy one. However I got exactly what I wanted and IMO its better built than the flimsy commercial ones. The black plastic lid that holds the plants is a piece of fender from a pickup truck
C99 #2 has been fighting for her life almost since it began. I saved her from damping off as a seedling but I think her roots never got healthy. After a series of attempts to bring her back to health, she just stopped growing and looked pathetic.
I washed the soil off the roots. Cut off the bottom half of the roots and pruned her way way back and put her in a makeshift hydro set up. Air pump bubbler in a large coffee can. After a week of this she has started to grow! Leaves are turgid for the first time in a month and new growth is happening fast! The roots too show about 1" of new growth. I cant put her back in the soil with those roots, but I am hoping to get some healthy shoots to clone
PS: I can't get rid of the last thumbnail but in it you can see my CFL panel on the back wall for side lighting.
