Kind of. If you collect the nutrient run off when you water, you can put the run off in a cup, and check that. Thats what people do.

Its fine to use it i use a hanna ph pen and the shit works good has been for 4 years now so yes BoomBiddyBye you can use it just water your plant till there is run off collect in a cup and check with Ph meter..... Have fun and good luck!!!! =)

My understanding is that run off isn't really the best way to measure soil pH. I collect some soil from the pot and mix it in a ratio of 2 parts soil to 1 part water. Let it sit for 30 minutes then measure the pH of the slurry.

checking your run off is fine thats how sum of us get along.... just because it isent a rod or soil capsule that dont make it any less accurate esspacialy when you got the best hanna PH pen you can buy and a blue lab that backs it up when im doughtful. But its also good to measure because if you have soil thats hot like ffof and RO there ppm's are like 1800-2000+ so after time your plant will eat alot of it and you watering it down alot will bring it down alot then you add your own nutrients and you can tell what your feeding them EC wise from the run off... but i hope this helps your cool as far as the meter get another ppm meter and good luck!!!
