Hey guys, should I transplant? This is a 2 gallon pot and I just bought some 4 gallon square pots today. Is it time?

You can dig it up and move it with little stress if you don't disturb the root mass at all. I don't think the plant in that pic is even near pot bound. So you can also let it grow till it is almost pot bound. It's also ez to move as all the roots HOLD the soil from falling apart. Your choice. A good gardener can do it either way.

By the size of your plants, I'd say youre good for week or two. I had plants that size growing in little plastic cups before I transplanted into bigger pots. You want to wait until you see roots popping out from the bottom of the pot, that way the roots will hold onto the soil when you tranplant. Wait until the soils dry before the transplant too. The lighter, the easier it is to do, and you put less stress on the plant.

Just like dannyboy said

You can flip and take it out and look at the rootball and see how much the roots has filled up

But by the the pic it looks like you still have a way to go before you get rootbound

Exactly. Don't be afraid of turning the pot over and letting the whole mass slide into the palm of your hand. It's the BEST way to see what's going on in there.

Ok thanks guys I will give them another week or two! One reason I wanted to transplant is because I think I planted the thing too far down into the pot and didn't put enough soil in it, as you can tell in the pictures. The lower leaves aren't getting much light at all and not much air movement from the fan since they are hiding down inside the pot :/

Guess I could just do what you said and turn it upside down and fill some more soil into the bottom of the pot to raise it up a couple inches eh?

i like to put the bottom of the stem between my 2 fingers to support it< makes it much easier, then flip it upside down and gently squeeze the pot and it should lift straight off.
