Inline Fan for Closet

While I have done plenty of research, I have a hiccup. I have a stealth that's 3x2x4ft with CFLs and there's an 18" carbon filter inside the box that reduces from 6" to 4".

I'm looking for an 4" inline fan that ideally runs between $50-$100 (after shipping) that is enough power for that size box to stay cool and odorless, without being too loud?

Thanks

Oh yeah, the HTG fans are loud as all get out. But I have paired mine with a Variac to reduce the noise. You could also get a duct muffler too.

any inline fan running on full power will be loud as fuck.

Want to know something? 4" 6" and 8" inline fans pretty much use the same motor. You could possibly get a bigger inline fan than you need, and run it on a speed controller. You'll still get your airflow, but you can reduce RPMs, thus reducing noise.

Also, consider a duct booster fan if you don't need to attach a carbon filter

This is great advice. My 440cfm fan on 1/2 power is half as loud as my 90cfm fan on full power. I'd get slightly larger than you need, use a reducer and run at half or even 1/4 power.

Some good adivce here, I'm almost in the same exact position and having a loud humming coming from the closet kind of defeats the purpose of the "Stealth Grow" lol.

I was leaning towards the 4" fan and filter from htg but maybe I'll go with the 6" and a speed controller if its really a big difference!

That is exactly right. I have a 6"HTG blower and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner full power. I don't need anywhere near 440CFM so I slowed it down with a router speed controller and it's quiet and unnoticeable. The one problem is that I can hear a "hum" from the motor.

hmm I got a 250 CFM fan, the wind coming out of it is louder than the fan its self. I paid $125 for it. Made for outdoor use or indoor.

I heard fan controllers kill the motor quicker than just running full speed

That seem like a decent route to go. I could just turn the flow of the fan down if I really needed to...

Theres another route the OP might be interested in that I was considering. I'm a little scepticle about the inline duct fans but for a 3x2 room I'm starting to think It might be capable of cooling an air cooled 400 and at the same time pull enough air through the carbon filter these guys match it up to, to get good ventilation and at the same time kill the smell.. Thats what I'm hoping anyway, any ideas here's the link.http://www.ebay.com/itm/270794401897?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
