opinions on trimming and topping

I've seen a lot of pics of plants with their lower limbs trimmed off. I've read a lot of opinions on the topping of plants and what about the trimming of fan leaves. What is the correct balance of all previous mentioned. What exactly is it that I'm looking for when it comes to shaping my plant?

Thanks for any and all help. All experienced growers can probably tell that I need it. Hell, I thought I'd just stick a seed in the ground and water it every few days. It's not like that at all if you really want to take it seriously as a hobby and want to grow decent product. Again, thanx.

well you will not get a straight answer on that one everyone has there own way of duing thing the best thing i can tell you is to experiment and see what works for u me on the other hand i trimmed my leaves and the bottom branches at about 3 or 4 weeks flowering i only trim leaves that are shading lower bud but like i said experiment try a few diffrent things on diffrent plant and see what works best for u.

none is necessary unless you have a reason for it, never trim big fan leaves they are the primary energy source for the grow engine.

I top my plants once usually. if they start stretching after that tie 'em down.
As for trimming your plant I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Really depends on a lot of variables and that's why its kind of a personal preference but i don't trim anything thats not a clone. Frmrboi nailed it pretty much. It'll shed leaves and create canopy on its own most the time. Don't follow the shed light on budsights by cuttin off fan leaves for big buds crap, its like focusing your lights at tomatoes instead of the leaves ya dig? Topping=multiple tops, Supercrop=canopy management, trim lower branches for clones and let the fan leaves be. The "goal" is to have whatever shape uses your light source most effeciently(fan leaf surface) whether its a flat canopy or a christmas tree.

personal preference. the lower 1/3 of my plants are bare and i dont mess with fan leaves till they start dying.
i top at 3 weeks and before they go into flower on a 7 week veg

Not sure why i was quoted but if you chop off all your lower branches then supercropping is less effective...or u can chop clones from them lower b's, or you can add side lighting, or you can just start em in 12/12 and not really have "lower branches" or you can harvest the top majority of a tall plant and let the bottom popcorn finish longer and fatten up....there's a lot of options!

Spot on Dude!! No hard and fast rules here. If you have a damned good reason and a plan then go for it. If you are just infactuated with the snipping of leaves then take up bonsai. If you need better airflow to prevent mold then by all means go for it.
