So.....just made some Butane Honey Oil!!!!!

Just made up my first batch of BHO yesterday courtesy of a kick ass how-to posted on RIU https://www.rollitup.org/toke-n-talk/413954-how-butane-honey-hash-oil.html and all I can say is I have lost all interest in ever smoking regular weed again.

I've never had even hash before and I've been hearing all about how BHO is one of the most pure and potent extractions available to the home DIY'er and boy was the hype accurate! The buzz is so smooth but powerful....for anybody who has yet to try BHO, I highly suggest you get reading on the RIU DIY thread posted above as you will not be disappointed. Feels like a whole new strange world has opened for me and it is good

BTW, did it all for less than $30 including butane cost. It's so easy and cheap it's sick that the state isn't flooded with BHO....once you go honey ya never go back!

It looks like good stuff but I kind of enjoy the taste of good buds. One little hit of BHO and you are toasted, there's no consumption enjoyment involved with that stuff. Thinking abut that though, I usually only take one or two hits of weed too so I guess that's not a good excuse lol.

I like to put a little piece of the frozen oil shard in the middle of a bowl topped with more weed and holy b'jeezuz hang on to your balls Ya get the flavor of the weed with the high of hash....it's the perfect compromise! What I've noticed is that the high lasts significantly longer than a regular nug high. Anywhere from 8-12 hours is how long I retain a thorough high from just a bit of the BHO as opposed to 3-5 hours with some solid nuggies and the high is much more of a body relaxation type of high which I prefer. This is just too friggin cool.....I can't believe there is no dedicated hash / oil section on RIU......*hint*hint

I love BHO too and made my first batch with quality bud just a month ago - earlier i just tried with bad trim and stuff like that. High quality bud and you get the stuff. Try whipping it while keeping it in the water bath (might need to change water once or twice). After 5-30 minutes the oil will often budder up and become white/yellow wax which is quite nice too (budder).
I smoke it on a small bong - bed of ash on the screen. Pack the ashes to make a nice flat bed. Then i drip a piece of oil or budder onto the ashes and gently inhale the hit. I use that hemp wick - just much easier to controll the flame so it doesn't combust. I prefer to heat as little as possible to make the hit smoother.

lettin the oil dry out. all the way. i htink it's the best. i put it in a little container and carry in my pocket. the heat is just enough to make little candy clumps. like a crushed up cough drop. shiny, and only slightly sticky. very good stuff.

Yes yes and YES! I actually purged with a food saver....I just took an old mason jar and punched a few holes in the top so the air could get in and then placed my parchment paper inside with lid on and then into a saver bag and then vacc'd closed. Very very easy process....just always remember to heat your BHO first for 1-2 mins @ 160-170 so that it's malleable. The purge is necessary to remove any remaining butane / air bubbles from the BHO so that you are left with nothing but quality product. I purge 3-4 times depending on how it's looking. Seems to work well for me so far....just need to learn how to handle the stuff a little better. Frozen works well for me but I'd like to find some ways to increase portability for travel and stuff. I'll research and report back y'all.

Well, I've smoked kief before which was like smoking high impact buds but I've never actually smoked "pressed hash" so I don't know what the difference in effect is between actual kief hash & oil extract hash. All I know is that BHO is like nothing I've ever experienced before in both potency and effect. The longevity of the high is just unbelievable compared to smoking regular buds. Then again, maybe I just smoked some really high quality BHO it was just like honey and a bitch of a mother to handle....woohooo!

Around here we never see good quality hash, so i can tell you for a fact, that pressed hash often contain a lot of other crap than hash. Sometimes when my buddy gets hash it's $2.5/gram. This is off course way too cheap to be pure hash. Sometimes we even get very soft black hash that smells very perfumed - and i bet you it is. This we paid only $6/gram for. Only problem with this hash was headache and lack of potency. That consistency should have been awesome hash.
Anyways - pressed hash can be very potent but then it's going to be expensive. Hash is very much like kief, but i feel the smoke is often more perfumed and full. Great pressed hash has a very nice smell.

Not completely true. Keif is unpressed trichomes and it's mostly made from dry bud. I don't think you will find much cannabinoids in the trichomes on the stalks - it's another kind of trichomes.
So when the cannbisfarmers in for instance Afghanistan sift their dry bud over a screen they end up with a lot of keif. Keif is unhandy and degrades way faster than hash - so they press the keif into hash to protect trichomes from oxygene as well.

put it into a baggie and hold it in your hand for 20 minutes. what is it now? hash for sure. it was before you heated it to 100* F, and pressed it too.
that's the difference for me, anyway.

Sounds like an old hippie trick. But i'm still pretty sure the trichomes you shake of those stalks are not nearly as potent as them from the bud. It's just because you say that it's "typically" made from stalks. This is just wrong. Hash is typically made from trichomes/keif sifted of the bud. Not saying that you can't make some kind of hash from the stalks but this is not how most of the hash we get to smoke is made - thus not "typically" made from stalks.

Hash in pressed form (i.e. pressed kief) is more stable than kief and will last longer in storage than just loose kief much in the same way that a pressed vacuum packed brick of weed has a longer shelf life than one sitting out in the open. Now there are many many many different ways of extracting said kief to be pressed into hash as we all know but even bubble hash made in bubble bags is still just a bunch of kief until it's pressed together and heated at which point it becomes a packaged preserved product called "hash". Some methods will be good and others will be not so good....good = pure trichomes. Bad = junk plant material + trichomes (i.e. green / dark looking hash). With that in mind I at this point believe an oil extraction is the best way to separate all of the goodies without any plant material acting as an adulterant to the final product. Isn't this discussion just gosh damn fun

I'm still somewhat of a newbie to all this hash stuff so I am by no means an authoritative voice on the issue at hand but I understand the basics so far as outlined above. Trichomes can of course attach to the stalk just like they do leaves and everything else a flowering plant touches but at the same time, the amount of kief that could be extracted from a stalk is rather minimal and if it were me in my garden, I'm certain I'd have more pressing things to do to produce a higher quality product than shaking sugarry stalks around in a jar......not knocking the trick by any means but I hope you see what I'm saying.

Sounds like you got it pretty right. One thing: Dark/black hash can be very pure quality - the trichome heads become black when moldet together - like hand hash..
The trichomes don't "attach" to the stalk but grow from it (but it's another kind of trichome) (and you actually might be right that a couple of trichomes will stick to the stems, but for their most part they grow from where you find them)
