Let's talk serious SCROG

Great Thread Profgrow=Rep's. My First Grow Will Be A Scrog Grow Using A Kannabin Power Skunk.This Will Be My First Time Growing.As Soon As My 120MM 200CFM Fan Comes I Will Start Building My Box.It Will Be 64x27x23 I Will Be Using CFL'S For My Grow 18 23w 2700K 1640 Lumens For Veg And 18 26W 6500K 1610 Lumens.Ive Read Where You want 2000 Lumens Per Sq Foot.Ive Got My Box Figured At 11 Sq Feet And Using This Fomula I Came Up With 22,000 Lumens.Iknow I'm At 29,520 Lumens With The 23'S And 28,980 Lumens With The 26's.Before I Found This Thread My Thinking Was I Would Use Y Splitters To Create 3 Banks Of 9.1Bank Over Head And 1 Bank On Each Side Creating An Upside Down U Which Would Give Me More Points Of Light.Now With Looking Over This Thread I'm Second Guessing My Thinking On The Amount Of Bulbs To Use.I Value Your Opinion And I'm Open To Your Suggestions.Thanks

Your going to use 400 watts of cfl's?

Dude, just get an hid setup. Cheaper, less hassle and more importantly, better buds and more of them. They are going to run at approximately the same temperature as well. Your going to need a much bigger fan. I would think anyways but I don't have any direct experience with micro grows

I was getting more heat off my 125W blue CFL than what was coming from my air cooled reflector with a 400W MH in there. Legally is definitely right on this one!

I would like to dispel a little rumor and provide a little physics lesson, watts is watts. Watts used = heat. People think that CFL's don't give off any heat. Given the same wattage, they give off the SAME AMOUNT OF HEAT as an HID bulb. There is a tiny tiny difference but its negligible. People seem to think that CFL's are so super duper efficient and cool they can cram a tiny box full of tons of them and they won't give off any light.

Comparing two bulbs in light sockets in your house, sure the CFL is cooler, because in general, its running about 1/4 of the wattage that a normal bulb does.

Besides, CFL's are LESS efficient in terms of lumens per watt than a HID. Handy chart stolen from another website..and the reason I am running 8 600 watt bulbs.

U mean they wont give off any heat, not light, lol. I didn't know a 600W was the most efficient, and that a 400W and 200W had the same efficiency, very useful little table when considering lighting!

CFL's may run hot, but T5's certainly don't.

T5's actually do give off a good deal of heat, however, because of the large surface area the heat is spread over a much larger surface area so the heat is a little harder to perceive. There is certainly heat coming off a 4 bulb T5 that I have for clones/seedlings.

It is well known that the 600 is the most efficient HID, hell its even in Jose's grow bible. But I think people don't read carefully or seem to forget some facts while slobbering over all those full page bud pictures

They are more efficient but it really comes down to your flowering room, style of grow, and what kind of coverage you need.

Thanks For The Reply=Reps I Just Got Back From My Hydro Store.The HID Will Generate More Heat Than CFL'S In My Box Plus This Box Will Go In My Closet.I Have 4 120MM 200CFM Fans Comming And I Will Hook 1 UP At A Time Check The Box's Temp's And Add What I Need To Keep The Heat Down,Plus Noise Is A Factor,I'm Going For Stealth.Also I'm Not Going For Large Yield's Just Good Smoke.

im in finally set up my first scrog its kinda ghetto but its going to do the trick. plant is in there and i have started to train it i made a tall screen because i had to put a plant that was already 2 1/2 feet tall into it i trained it to about 1 10/12 feet than put it under my 2 foot tall screen i know its not optimal but my light can go up to 6 feet up in my room so ive got plenty of space. genetics is great white shark northern lights at what point would be a good time to switch to 12 and 12 and start flowering from what ive read its when the screen is 90 percent full. this thread is amazing btw i had really been thinking about scrog and this thread pulled my leg enough to finally go through with it thank you.

Welcome to the scrog party!

As for when to start flower, I start at 80-90% full, about to break my own rule though as i have a screen thats 90% and a screen at 60%, gonna have to flower soon or my 90% will be out of control. I have seen guys start flower anywhere from 50%- 100% with varying results, kinda depends on the strain, if you have something with a lot of stretch (NL can be a stretcher depending on pheno) you can flower around 60-70% but heavy indicas ie Kush strains etc can be closer to the 90 mark.

Thats how I handle things but I'm sure others have additional info.

Quick update on my flat scrog.

Left screen is almost full, Right screen is around 60%, gave an extra blast of nutes to the right side and it may have slowed me down. changed lighting from 24 to 20 on and been treating my res with H202, it has gotten rid of the algae nicely but may have been a strong mix- 3ml per gal of 35%, heard that mix was decent but I will be watching her close for a few days, ph has also been spiking due to the algae die off, ph'ing a couple times a day now just to stay up on whats going on.\

Oh, found that aluminum reflective tape, that stuff is really great, again, props to Leagallyflying for good advice.

Prof, i can already see where your SCROG is going, lookin spot on so far, shame one's ahead of the other thoough! Those screens look PERFECT for the job. Been using aluminium tape from the start of my growing career and i honestly have NO idea what i'd do without it. That stuff is amazingly easy to use, super strong AND reflective, what more could you need from tape?!

Here is a way to make carbon filters for less than $3 each,they take about 30 minutes to make & all components & materials can be bought at any meijers store.

Materials needed.

1 4 pack Scotch Brite cloth towels from Meijers............$2

1 Bottle Activated Carbon from Meijers or fish store......$6

1 sewing needle & thread from Meijers........................$2

not at Miejers, walmart, kmart, lowes, menards, family dollar, dollar general.....so I was wondering if I could use panty hose instead.......if they sell them here lol

take it back and grab a 600 dawg lol. I think the 400's r a scam depending on your space. The 600's throw almost twice as many lumens out for the number crunchers. And have great penetration. Hey prof.. that fan looks mean without the cage. Like a Mini leaf trimmer. I would find a way to hurt myself around that thing. Looking good!

Space Is A Major Concern My Cab Is 64H 27L 20W. To Get The Exhaust Hooked Up I'm Going To Extend The Length By 9''.I Think 50.000 Lumens Will Be Plenty For My Stealty Closet Cab. I Drooled All Over My Keyboard At The Price Of The 600's But Can't Make It Fit And I Concerned About The Heat.Atleast I Didn't Buy The 250 Watt Set Up lol

Here's a quick update for my 1X Royal-Haze Fem.. She's 12 day's into Flower & she's pretty much filled the whole screen now and is getting very bushy. I think maybe I should have put her into Flower a couple of weeks earlier... but hey, nevermind she's doing good.. I can't wait to see some buds start to appear, hopefully not too long to go - STELTHY
