Yeah, wtf...another absurd addition to an absurd drug policy. Now Dutch coffeeshops are prohibited from selling cannabis with more than 15% THC, and anyone caught with proper weed will be punished like it was a hard drug. How can they compare cannabis to stuff like heroin and methamphetamine? There are already a host of ridiculous laws designed to make it hard to grow your own, and even harder for coffeeshops to operate, but they just keep coming up with "brilliant" ideas...the weed-pass is being introduced in the Southern half of the country at the end of this year, coffeeshops are closing left and right, grow-ops (even small and/or legal ones) are being busted every day, and there is no end in sight...it feels like while the rest of the western world is slowly moving toward legalization, The Netherlands, known for its liberal policies, is moving backward.

I hear ya brother, The new laws in the Netherlands is why i cant take my vacation there in a year. i was planning on coming for a week and staying in amsterdam. But i heard they passed a law prohibiting coffee shops from selling to tourists and that each one can only have 1500 members. correct me if im wrong and i hope i am. I would like to know how they plan on testing it and how accurate will it be . I would like to have a tester that would be good. most likely it will be done in a lab and not on the spot.

thats what im sayin....iv never seen or heard of a handheld device that tests thc content....
..iv seen them for coke but not weed

What about the seed companies, how is this going to effect them selling strains expected to have a higher than 15% content? Has that been effected?

I dont think it would affect seed companies, but this new law is just plain ridiculous. It is impossible to test THC content "on the spot". In fact there are not that many labs with the necessary equipment for this kind of test. Moreover, the buds on a plant contain different amounts and ratios of cannabinoids, depending on how far from the top they are. Even if a strain is rated to have a THC content of 14%, it would be possible to have buds of higher potency in the cola, making that part of the plant a "hard drug". Lastly, the psychoactive effects of cannabis come from the interaction of THC with various other cannabinoids, not just THC itself.

They are trialling a ban in one specific area (Maastritch) which will effect most "foreign drug tourists", however this seems pointless as 80% of those who were visiting this area are excluded from the ban eg neighbouring Germans etc.

Unless a strain of WW is under 15% legally yes it will cease to exist in coffee shops along with most other well known weed strains

I think u r right unfortunately, though thanks for bringing me up on that one! The best guess for implementation is possibly sometime next year, that's all media says at the mo. I did read something about the mayor having the ability to choose whether to enforce the new laws, not sure if that related to banning tourists or the 15% I assume tourists, though again not sure how exactly this would work. Only time will tell what impact these decisions will have.

Youve seen a hand held device thats tests purity of cocaine? Roadside drug tests can now show use of cannabis quite quickly but won't show thc %. They will spot check the shops, take samples and test elsewhere I imagine - probably in a lab?

I just came across this article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/6060528.stm) which says tests revealed cannabis was at 29% thc! I would love to know what strains were used to get such high content, it would definitely be on my Christmas wish list!

Actually, I went to Amsterdam just last friday, and was able to find plenty of potent cannabis...a lot of coffeeshops just removed any reference to thc percentages from their menus Also, the mayor of Amsterdam is openly against this cannabis witch-hunt; he said that if the weed pass was introduced in Amsterdam, he would ignore it. So there is hope yet, for all the stoner tourists invading the city in November!

Yeah, especially since pretty much every dutch stoner rolls joints with tobacco...if the weed is less potent, they just put more weed, less tobacco, and problem solved. However, this is unfair to medical patients who require a particular kind cannabis that might now be classified as a hard drug simply because because it was grown with more care, or is just naturally more potent that your average coffeeshop weed. Also, what about cannabis connoisseurs? They understand that the smell and taste of supreme cannabis can only be achieved through perfect cultivation techniques, which, invariably would also result in high potency (generally speaking). What's next, making organic growing illegal?

Also, there is those that don't want to have to smoke a shit ton of nasty tasting weed to catch a buzz you could also get from lawn clippings...or just one bowl of proper weed...

If they were going to go through all that trouble they should have unified to make it all legal, get everyone registered, then illegalized the shit out of it again. As its done now their are enough black market growers that they'll never get rid of the quality genetics. bwhahahahaaha fuck 'em. Legal growers will just have to keep illegal connects to keep high grade personal.
