take it back and grab a 600 dawg lol. I think the 400's r a scam depending on your space. The 600's throw almost twice as many lumens out for the number crunchers. And have great penetration. Hey prof.. that fan looks mean without the cage. Like a Mini leaf trimmer. I would find a way to hurt myself around that thing. Looking good!
The fan makes a really fun sound every time I graze it with my elbow or fingers lol! Fortunately it doesn't hurt too bad and the airflow output is double with the cage off, I would get some clip on fans but here in VT no retailer sells any sort of fan other than the big box fans after sept :(

Your going to use 400 watts of cfl's?

Dude, just get an hid setup. Cheaper, less hassle and more importantly, better buds and more of them. They are going to run at approximately the same temperature as well. Your going to need a much bigger fan. I would think anyways but I don't have any direct experience with micro grows
I Just wanted to say THANKS for opening up my eye's to an very expensive mistake (Easy Bake Oven) Thats still tickels my belly when i think about it.Also A Shout Out To Lilindian As Well SALUTE Peace Out.

I was on a twice a week watering cycle, water on Sunday feed on Thur but I came home on Thur and most of my plants were drooping and sickly looking. I quickly fed them though I knew they needed water, they perked back up within half hour. Once a week feeding seems to work but I'm gonna water 3 times a week now so wondering if I need to up feedings too.....now I use flora Nova grow 1tsp/gal once a week. These plants are suddenly very thirsty I give about 3/4 gallons when I water and 1 gal per plant when I feed. Will be posting pics later, meantime does it sound like a plan ?

While i'm at it, I saw a vid where it was said he keeps mites away by washing plants daily with soap and water...my question is won't that negatively effect the soil... as in too much alkaline

To thunderbay, why it's not good to have your plants wilt, drying substrate will actually increase root growth so just be sure to avoid keeping them always damp. Daily soap application may be a bit much. I do several applications of azamax during veg to prevent mites and then an application of mite rid before flipping. While not for everyone, if you ever had mature buds and mites, you will realize the benefits of an ounce (or two) of prevention.

To mr. Easy bake, lol, your welcome dude. That is the purpose of the forum. Kudos for taking some advice, many times newbs read advice then decide that "no that's not correct"...often to their peril. But, as I stated, a small HID setup..an air cooled one, will be easier to manage, be much simpler to set up, and most importantly, give better results with the correct bulbs. If I may make a suggestion, buy the cheapest off the shelf MH bulb (my $15 plant max bulbs give the same results as my $75 digilux MH) and use the money you save on a high quality HPS. Ushio, hortilux, or my current favorite, digilux

leagally flying, thx for advise, been reading up on azamax and since i don't have problem (yet) can it just be mixed at feeding for prevention ?

unanswered questions

will soap and water make soil alkaline

can Azamax be added to soil at feeding as prevention

have changed my watering schedule from twice a week to 3 times, should I also change the feeding schedule (now it's Flora Nova 1tsp/gal once a week)

can I use a panty hose to hold my charcoal for a filter rather than scotch brite cloth

lastly is there a way to identify strains (got a tall lanky believed to be train wreck and a short bushy believed to be nebula)

1. Yes, in high enough concentrations soap will cause your soil to become more alkaline.

2. Azamax is designed as a foliar spray, feeding most likely won't cause issues but it may also not help. Like all pesticides and anti fungals; try to stay on top of your crop and don't use products until you need them.

3.Soil watering can very greatly, some weeks plants may drink 3-5 gal some weeks 1 gallon is plenty, it really depends on your plant, I have used the finger test in the past; pit a finger in the soil to the second knuckle, if its damp wait.

4. Pantyhose may work to hold the solid carbon in place but carbon powder may leak out, green scrubby pads are usually suggested because they hold in solids and particles pretty well.

5. Identifying plants from seed can be difficult, depending on phenotype you may have a plant that usually grows short but your seed is a "stretcher". The best way to figure out what you have is to inspect and smoke the finished product but even then, unless your plants have very different lineage it can be hard to tell, if standard growing it may be easier but scrog makes bud shape so uniform thats not a good distinguisher.

Thank you Prof, most is what I suspected but wanna make as sure as possible, though I realize there is going to be things along the way. I got the grow bug now so those 4 plants I'm gonna grow as planned but those party cups I'm gonna try everything I can think of, see what I like what I can discover. I thank this board and in particular this thread for all the useful information that gave me the confidence to forge ahead.... a toke for all and good smoking.

Have you noticed any benefit from the "reducing" plan as opposed to just going to 12/12 ?
Just curious as I've always just jumped straight from 18/6 to the 12/12.
