Forgot to add. I had a 2ltr of tapwater that has been sittin there for more than a few weeks used for house plants. Took a reading from that and it was 190PPM. Hmmm....trying eavng you water for 24 hours before using it helps loads

well .. i don't use mine ... the ec of tap water here is above 1200 with floride and chlorine .. i use distilled ...
The PPM on your tapwater is 1200?!? Thats insane.

Leaving water sit out only helps evaporate Chlorine. It does nothing to alter ppm's or "hardness". You need Reverse Osmosis or DI filtration or distillation to remove hardness. Just because one grower is able to use their tapwater doesn't necessarily mean another grower can do the same with the same results. I can't use tapwater for my houseplants even! If your tapwater is too hard (and hardness can vary wildly depending on your geographical location, or the time of the year) it can have an antagonistic effect on certain nutrients which manifests as a deficiency. Not all are so lucky to have good tapwater.
