story ppl,
i got 4 girls on the go but wont be ready till crimbo, so i was desperate for sum shmoke
and had to go to an unknown...
cut to da chase i got stung with an O of the sparkliest shit i ever seen, not happy at all
WTF is it. i promised my self it would never heppen again but it didnt look like the usual crap that sparkls and pops.
is it just unflushed or is it sprayed?
and can i do anything to stop it like washing it?

Hey stickey. When you say sparkley.. do you mean the bud glitters unusually in the light or do you mean it sparkles when burned? It you chew a tiny little bit of it (don't swallow it) does it feel very gritty between your teeth? Any unusual smell from it? If you burn a little of it, what colour is the ash? Does it stay lit or is it hard to light?
If you mean it just sparkles when you burn it and tends to stay lit very easily but otherwise it's just like regular weed then it's likely that it was probably grown in a high-nutrient hydro setup and just wasn't flushed at all. Sparkles when you burn are usually nitrate crystals in the bud. Nitrates are oxidising compounds, and the sparkles are pieces of plant matter and resin burning explosively in contact with the nitrate. It's not overly harmful (nitrates are actually added to cigarettes to make them burn down faster) but it's not exactly good for you and the smoke will be harsh. Bud sparkling when burned and leaving black ash behind are signs that it wasn't flushed.
If the weed glitters unusually in the light and feels gritty between the teeth though it might be something that was sprayed on to add weight, or the worst case scenario is ground-up glass that was sprinkled on the growing buds to add weight and sparkle. Seriously bad shit. Really good bud glitters a tiny bit but won't feel gritty. If it glitters so much that it looks like there are giant crystals in the buds and feels gritty between the teeth don't smoke it or you might be inhaling tiny particles of glass.

its sparkley and pops when smoking, and when you leave da J in da ashtray you can see it sparkling away.
it stayes lit in the ashtray longer than it should
and then ye have hard black ash on the end when ye go to light it again.
tastes horible and quite harsh to smoke, and fook all of a stone
I think itz just unflushed ferts myself.

Definately sounds like lots of nitrate in the weed, though I have no idea how so much nitrate could have built up in the buds that it sparkles and pops even when you leave the J in the ashtray. Flowering fertilisers generally have a low nitrogen ratio in them. Maybe this happens if the grower uses vegging nutes right up to harvest and then doesn't flush?
To get rid of it you could try water curing as Harrekin suggests - method described here:

Also you could try making hash out of the buds. Any hash making method that uses water will remove most of the nitrates (most nitrates are very soluable in water) but leave the THC undissolved.

Visible sparkles when bud is burned cannot be caused by glucose or starch. Carbohydrates can fizzle a bit when burned but will not burn with a firework sparkle. There are a few reasons bud can burn with a crackling sound, but chemical fertilisers are the only thing likely to be found in bud that can cause explosions energetic enough to create visible flashes of light. Google 'bud sparkles when burned' and you'll find a couple of pages of results that suggest it can occur when no flushing takes place. Among them are a couple of threads on other growing forums where the smoker grew the buds themselves and didn't do any kind of spraying.
BTW what does glucose spraying do for buds? Haven't heard of that one before.

Honestly tho, I use complete chemical ferts and don't flush and my weed burns as nicely and smoothly as when I used organics.
It's a semi-subtle way to make the buds weigh more and look more "shiny".

Here is a couple of pics up of girls that I've grown outdoors...
The first pic is a plant that has stayed outdoors all its life... the other pic is one that I protect from the cold and rain...!!!
They grew from seeds I found in some of my smoke...
Those airpots looks the bizz, although if your room gets cold in the winter then these pots may not be the best.... As alot of roots will be exposed to the cold air...
Anybody seen those pet warming mats on eBay, runs on 12v and waterproof, think they'll be great to sit one or two pots on for the depths of winter...?

Nah man,Airpots will keep your roots just as well in the cold as normal pots,Iv battled some real low temperatures and never had a problem.
