Please identify what this is(pic)?

I noticed a little whitish growth on the lower part of the stem of the smallest plant. This plant seems to be growing nicely but is a little slower than the rest. It's seed germinated a couple days after the others and was planted at that time. Is that whitish prick anything to worry about or normal?

Btw, these pics are day 18 for the two bigger ones and 16 for the smaller. I used tap that I had ran through a PUR water pitcher filter for the first 12 days and then started with slightly less than a 1/4 teaspoon of Dyna Gro Grow nutes and that's all.The tallest plant is 4 1/2" tall. How would you evaluate the state of my plants so far for 18 days? I have bought Liquid Karma to mix with the Dyna Gro but haven't done it yet. Is Liquid Karma a decent choice for hydro along with Dyna Gro Grow? Should I be using distilled water or is tap run through a 2-stage water filter fine in the long run? Also, what are the tiny leaves that are forming at the nodes called and are they what lead to the sex of the plant?

The white is actually the roots thats trying to grow above the medium. That is nothing to worry about. Dyna-Gro works beautifully with tap water or RO water so it doesn't matter. I use the brita filter to dechorinize it and let the bottle sit open for a day or 2 before watering.

The white is actually the roots thats trying to grow above the medium. That is nothing to worry about. Dyna-Gro works beautifully with tap water or RO water so it doesn't matter. I use the brita filter to dechorinize it and let the bottle sit open for a day or 2 before watering.

OK great. I hadn't even thought about a root trying to sprout up that far on the stem.

I was a little confused about what you said on the Brita filter. I know that sitting water out in the open is what releases the chlorine, so are you saying that you just use the filter as and extra step to dechlorinate? Do you know what percentage of chlorine the Brita filter removes? I cannot find that exact info on my PUR unit, just that it does help remove chlorine, but I bet your Brita is a 2-stage like mine so it should be similar.

Hey thanks. I'm going super low budget for my first grow but everything does seem to be going decent for the most part. I've only spent about $30 so far, not including the Aerogarden which I managed to get at an estate sale for just $17. Only thing I really need to buy now is a good bloom nute, but I haven't decided which one.

I am pretty sure the Brita and Pur are similar. I leave the bottles open just for extra evaporation. It is just easier for me to fill up the water bottle after I water the plants. I don't know how much they remove with these filters. I just know they remove the chorine by the taste and smell. Its obvious. I drink the water as well.

Do you feel DG Bloom is nearly as effective as other more highly regarded bloom nutes on the market? I've read some say that DG Grow and Protekt were really good but the bloom formula was a little disappointing. What else have you tried?
