Chicago to Decriminalize Marijuana

Posted on October 29th, 2011 by Kevin Khakshouri

Members of Chicago’s municipal council are proposing to decriminalize possessing up to 10 grams of Marijuana in the Windy City. Alderman Daniel Solis is planning on bringing up this ordinance at next week’s City Council meeting. One positive point about the plan is that it will raise revenue for Chicago and allow police to spend more time worrying about more dangerous criminals.

Rather than facing a misdemeanor charge, up to six months in jail and a $1500 fine, those caught with less than 10 grams of the stuff will only be hit with a $200 dollar ticket and up to 10 hours of community service. Currently, Chicago police are making up to 23,000 arrests every year for marijuana possession. Council member, Gary McCarthy stated at a budget hearing on Thursday that he was, “OK with making it a very simple summary arrest with a ticket, something along those lines.”

Does it really matter?, even when states pass laws the Feds find a way to fuck it up. Besides, I already smoke likes it's legal and would actually enjoy using a simple possession charge as a platform for legalization. We've had people caught w/entire homes converted for grows, they get probation. The only exception was 2 Mexicans earlier this year, they got 5 years...but had almost 2,500 lbs.

Chicago would make a great Midwestern Amsterdam, wouldn't it? I'd make weekly pilgrimages, I'd even take the train (I try not to fly).

Oh, the shopping, the smoking, the drinking, the eating, the music, and the sex. Oh yeah, my kind of town.

They should of been done it in every city.
You could say it's legal to smoke in philly cause the cops wont lock you up for personal.
I think for 30 grams or less it's just a 100 dollar fine.Im sure they'll try and roof you for plants but only risking a 100 dollar fine to carry a little more then a oz is great.

Spend 15 years in Chicago part of my childhood as well. Love the city especially the night life, couldn't do the winters any more hehe, and the weed laws sucked. Cali fixed all those things for me :-D
But i mean if we can have have a corrupted mayor i dont see why we wouldn't be able to have 10gram of bud decriminalized.

we getting closer
15g or less $100 - $500 fine
thats around $33 per gram (might as well keep 3 on you)
no jail time
what they really doing is taxing drug dealers ... think about it.... who else is going to (always) have 15 bags, i mean,, 15g on them. this could bring a lot of money to the city..... and not to mention the biggest reason (the real 1) ....protecting the children of high profile/high racking city officials.. from fucking there records up... getting pulled over in the families $90k benz with 10 bags of that loud on them.. with 1 bag burning. with that got damn rap music sky high............. so many people are against the mmj laws.. like the ones in cali . do to the fact that a smoker has to get a license thus, putting there info on file.... but decriminalztion laws, allows for the closet to stay closed .... (if you cant tell. i am pro this 15g law........thank you Rahm)

i love this waaay more then cali style mmj laws that other states are doing

LMAO.. I was out there a couple months ago I thought it was funny af ppl callin weed "loud".. and also bro its way better weed wise out here in cali.. you can smoke in front of cops and everything. And you dont have to get a license, just a doctors referral, which doesnt go into any state or county system at all.

hands down,,, cali gat that good
when yall first got that mmj
i almost went there in my mind, i almost told the wife to pack the car
but i couldn't see myself leave my city

the biggest problem with our weed is,, its 9 times out of 10 ran by gangs
in the late 90's and early 00' we were calling our best weed "DRO"
now a days its all about that "loud"

noone knows what strain it is, we just know there
no stems,
no seeds,
no leaf,
and when you open the bag that shit stank up the whole room before you even lite it up
as far as we know it could be bag seed grown right...(sad but true)

maybe this new law will open up more weed spots with more strain chioces.. dout it ,, these hood mf'ers are not ready for weed choices ..
here .....its regular weed.. mid grade.. then loud (used interchangably with the word "kush").... those are your strain chocies.....(of course there are a few real strain spots. but not for those shoping on the street)

Well I go back and forth every year. I was born and lived here first, then I lived out in the Chi for like 9 years, then I moved back here in 08 and I go back out there to visit every year. The prices are terrible. The "loud" you got for $20 a gram I get for $5 a gram here at the dispensary. I was pissed.. I spent $25 for 7 grams and dude came back with 7 grams of rock hard mexican brick.. super compressed right off the truck.. visit out here bro you will be amazed. Ill tell you wat.. ill trade you all the weed here for all the fine puerto rican females yall got there. Deal?

The only bad thing about Chicago is the Bears...

Actually, you can throw the White Sox in there too.

I was getting cans of medical local from a guy in the tinley area. But it was a pain dealing with him and it was always on his time... which was about 3 weeks longer than want to wait.

I really really hope that hb0030 passes this year. http://www.illinoisnorml.org/content/view/1096/1/

Legislation that seeks to legalize the physician-supervised use of medical cannabis is on hold until legislators return to Springfield in November for the fall veto session.
House Bill 30, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, allows qualified patients to possess and grow cannabis for medical purposes. Please contact your State Representative and State Senator and urge them to pass this much needed legislation as soon as possible. By calling 217-782-2000 the state directory operators will be able to connect you to your legislators' offices. Please let us know what responses you get from these lawmakers. If you can setup an appointment to meet with them in person that is even better.
In the previous session, similar legislation was approved by the Senate but was narrowly defeated by the House.
Sixteen states -- Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington -- and the District of Columbia have enacted laws protecting medical cannabis patients from state prosecution. There is no legitimate reason why Illinois patients should not enjoy these same legal protections.
Contact your state House member and tell them to support HB 30 by visiting NORML's 'Take Action' Center here:
