12/12 light cycle: Can light during the dark period really do damage??

Alot of ppl stress that ANY exposure to light during the dark period (during flowering 12/12) can slow flowering or stunt bud growth. In the wild or anytime outdoors plants do get accidental light sometimes, like a car driving by for instance.. Are people just being worry worts or does light really mess it up? Follow with your thoughts, experiences, and opinions.

I think lights like a car or ocasional stuff doesnt effect the bud. A constant street light would probly be bad tho..

Yes it is that big of a deal. When the almighty produced marijuana, he wasnt thinking about cars headlights. Seriously though, you dont want light to get to them. Especially any perpetual light, aka alarm clocks, a/c unit controls, heaters that glow when warming, light leaks from outdoors, etc... Good luck and good growing

i think its more of people being worry worts, i mean obviously alot of light is not good for her during dark periods so just dont expose her to light then , let her be during that time, and worship her when the lights on , lol

What about a normal house light for a minute or 2? Thats most often what it is... Usually with indoor grows

HUGE DEAL depending on how long i know this guy who thought any green light would not be noticed by his plant, he had a reg light with a green lens over it . which he apperently bought from a grow store! and he used it when he went induring night to do some work. and when it came time to harvest the \guy have half his buds way over done about 75% amber and half the plant was premature buds because it had partly go into veg every once in a while, the guy pulled barley any usable bud. hahaha but he gave away alot of hash! :)

people are being stupid... they get constant moonlight in the wild, so a little light leak isnt going to hurt anything

My grandfather had a 1600 acre farm in the Matanuska valley, he sowed by moonphase so the harvest would be in the correct phase.
Now I find this 'moonphase' stuff is all imagination, it is constant in nature and cannot affect plants.

Sometimes when I read outright "ignorant to the point of he must pee with his zipper still up" comments I actually do laugh out loud.

No your being stupid

their is a big difference from growing outdoors then indoors

The reason why outdoor plants are not effected by moon light is because they are under the Intense sun all day and are not fazed by the comparatively weak light source from the moon

Indoors we use artificial light that is no where close to the intensity of the sun , so indoor light leaks do hurt ,

theirs a big difference from a light leak source from room lights and shit that is leaking in on a plant that is grown under 1k hps and less then their is plants grown under the sun and get moonlight

Apparently, moon gives 0.1-1 lux, that's 0.1-1 lumens per m2. It seems plant reaction depends on the specie. Some species are affected and flowering is slightly retarded, while others flower better when receive low intensity light rather than complete darkness. It seems also that some species have developed adaptive mechanisms to avoid the inteference of moonlight on its photoperiodism. Too bad there are no scientific studies on cannabis.

This is an old but very interesting paper about this issue: http://www.pnas.org/content/62/4/1018.full.pdf

By the time I get home from work my plants are already in theyre 12 hr darkness period. I look at them under the bedroom light for about 1 minute every day when I get home to check for pests or any problems. Can this stunt the growth that much?

thats really odd, ive used those "green party bulbs" many times and never ever saw any problems from it.

I guess the peeps thinkin it does no harm have no experience in growin mj to high standards and accept that airy buds is wot its ment to b like , or the hermies they are producing is somehow a genetic fault of the breeders !!
