week old plant , general noob questions

total newb here so looking for some helpful info ... so my setup consists of right now an 8 oz cup with fox farm ocean forest , and 4 60 watt CFL's running 16 hours on 8 hours off, i started with 2 bulbs but i noticed that the stem the seedling sprouted from was purplish so i added 2 more and it seems to be regaining a greenish color , i had to use a straw with a breadtie to support the weight of the plant ( im going to bury that long ass stem some when i re-pot the thing ) but it looks like some of the leaves on it are doing this weird curly thing , is this something i should be concerned of? i've been using tap water which i recently started adjusting to about 5.5 and i tested the runoff from the plant and it was at 6.5 , any suggestions for me? when should i transplant this thing? (right now i've got a 5 gallon bucket i can move it to) , should i be looking for some sort of nutritional deficiency? also this was just some bagseed i had lying around if it helps (more for practice till i order some feminized seeds) IMG_0640.jpgIMG_0641.jpgIMG_0643.jpgIMG_0642.jpg

Looks like it is/was overwatered and you won't need to transplant for a couple more weeks from looks but when you do do yourself a favor and bury about 2/3rds of that stem she if it is she will thank you

You won't have to worry about adding nutrients for a while. In fact wth Fox Farm OF and my crystal ball, I see possible nute burn in your near future ... definitely water less, not more imo.
And I recommend you think about buying 150 watt-equivalent bulbs!! cn

Are u using 6500k lights? Make sure u throw in a 2700k in as well. Also I wud keep the lights on for 24 hours

i would leave it alone, and not move them ligts away from it, it will stop stretching once it hits the light and the stem will develop a bit. alternatly you can just bury it, but whatever you decide to do keep that light as close as you can without burning the the plant.

also FFOF is supposedly perrty "hot" for seedlings so the more you water the greater your chances of getting nute burn. make sure you let it dry out good :)

thanks for all the helpful advice so far , the soil was dry today (did the finger thing) so i watered , i'm thinking of just leaving it for 5 days to a week and seeing how it's doing .. i realize the FFOF was probably a bad choice to start on (took some shit advice from another forum) and i should've probably started with light warrior i'm assuming from my reading. will post more pics as it goes

Nutes all depend on opinion, people say don't use miracle grows blue granules yet they worked fine for me.

6500 stands for the light temperature on the kelvin scale.

I would recomend against them but I grow organic, whatever you can afford and whatever you can make work for you and yours is the key

it doesnt really matter what soil you use to start. i started my plants in miracle grow potting soil and and now they're flowering in it. just dont water it until the top inch or so of soil is dry and DONT give it nutrients. i had to tie up my plants just like that, its pretty common.

def bury the stem more like the others said, and contrary to belief cfls can get warm ecspecially with higher watt ones so even though they have to be close make sure to have good airflow heat could be causing the leafs to be curling, a good start is vital for a good finish. and i agree keep the lights on for 24. good luck with the grow

i dont plan on giving it any nutes for a while, i was just more concerned with the way the leaves were curving and seeing if that was an issue / how to correct it , is moving the light cycle to 24 hours good or bad for the plant? right now its 16/8 , but i'll take any suggestions

during veg you want 6500k bulbs i.e. daylight. and u can throw in a couple 3000k or lower they are in the red spectrum. either way the more light the better but like i said keep a good air flow. what does your grow area look like?

thanks bud, would you suggest moving it into a 5 gallon bucket or would that be too big (drainage holes will be drilled) and just finish the remainder of the grow in there?

I run 24 if you can afford it they will love it and you should see much faster growth, the leaf problem to me looks like overwatering, let the cup dry till it feels light and the first inch of soil is dry, that things got a taproot that is probably down at the bottom of pot so could probably go 3 or 4 days or more between waterings right now

Typically see 18/6, 20/4 or just 24/0 ... I just switched to 20/4 because a 600 slurps power. I ran my T5 panel 24/0. I'm betting the curving leaves have to do with overfert ... just watering when needed should be good for a while ... cn
