1st Grow Ever

It's my first time doing this, I was just gonna use Herb I.Q to save it so I will use this instead. Feel free to comment but please remember this is the first time I'm doing this.


Medium: Miracle grow potting soil with 6 month feed.
Strain: Good Bagseed
Date Germed: 11/24/11
I germed 12 in 5oz of water with 1/2oz of peroxide. 8 sprouted within 18 hours the other 4 srouted after roughly 24 hours.

On 11/27/11 the little ones sprouted out of the coconut pellets I used and went under 4 23 watt cfl 6500K and 2 23watt cfl 2700K on a closet shelf until I felt they were ready for my stealth box.

On 11/29/11 I moved them into the stealth box. They have really taken off in growth they are about 3in in height and 3in across on the bigger 3 the others are about half that.

I will have pics up, as soon as they upload, of the babies and the stealth box that I built.

I'm gonna assume you're in soil, so the best advise I can give you is to remember this is just a plant. Don't over engineer this or make it more complicated than it has to be. Cannabis will thrive in the most adverse conditions, so the plant isn't gonna die on you if you see a brown spot, or a leaf curl. These forums are a fantastic resource and a curse at the same time. A beginner can easily get real confused at all the conflicting information given out, and will end up trying to cure something that wasn't even a problem to begin with, and end up killing the plant. If one believed everything one read on these forums, it would be a wonder how Cannabis ever survived without us.
Growing in soil is basic biology and botany. There is nothing mystical or mythical involved in growing this plant, nothing sets it apart from growing anything else. If you can grasp plant nutrition, you'll be good to go. Light, water, food, and good soil is all that's needed. Obviously we want to "maximize and optimize" our grows, but at first, just concentrate on getting them thru until harvest. When you can do that, then start refining your technique. You are not going to be a master grower your first couple of grows. get better as you grow. It is a learning process like anything else.

Here are the pics from yesterday and today I added a little more soil ontop. Right now they are in solo cups with holes in the bottom and another underneath to catch the excess water. How do I determine when to translplant? I won't veg them for too long because of height restrictions and overcrowding if even 3 of these turn out to be female.

Contrary to popular opinion, you should be fine with that. Just remember, there are nutes in that soil already. Seelings do not need to be fed for at least two weeks, and then the nutes in the soil will be fine for at least a month. DON'T FEED THEM ANYTHING for a month, or until you start seeing signs of them needing it. Always water them until you get run-off, then let them dry out. The roots need oxygen. Then water again until you get run-off. Always water that way. Don't do a bit every day. Roots sitting in wet/moist media all the time will rot. It needs to dry out a bit before you water again. Don't over feed, and water correctly. If you are going to use MG ferts, use them sparingly. No more than 1/4 strength at first, building up to 1/2 strength. Don't use it full strength at all, it's not necessary. Only feed every other watering at most. Follow these rules, and you should be fine with MG.

The pH of that soil is going to remain stable. DON'T freak out at every little "hangnail" you see on your plants. You are going to have a brown spot or a leaf curl here and there. People are gonna tell you that your pH is off. That is just not the case ordinarily. Too many people concentrate on the pH of whats going in or coming out, when the real issue is the pH at the rootball. Take it easy, make it fun, and just try to get through to harvest this time. Don't worry about getting massive buds at first, That will come in time.

Everything looks good so far. The best advice I can give you, is to pay attention to what jack said about watering. With MG soil, the fertilizers are all water soluble. So every time you water, you are feeding your plants. Waiting until your soil dries out is important with MG so you don't over feed them, especially when they are young. You shouldn't need any extra nutes during veg with MG soil. If you do decide to give them extra nutes, then use them sparingly at first and see how your plants react to it.

Edit: I just noticed you are using clear cups.
You need to get something around those cups. As the roots expand and start growing around the edge of the cup they will be exposed to too much light. Wrap em up in duct tape, or some construction paper, trash bags, anything that will block out light will work.

So went to the store and got some more supplies. My mylar emergency blanket was not sticking well so I went and got a couple window shields and new cups. I like this setup better because it gives me more room. One of the babies was hit by a falling fan yesterday so I tied the fans down. Sometimes my inguinity amazes myself. Ok Woke up went to see the little ones and they looked fried!! One was withered and crisp the others had crisp leaves. Some worse than others and one that was hardly burnt. I took out two of my lights. I think they have light burn. I'll post pictures tonight when I get off work. Is there any other ways I can help my babies with there burns? How can I increase the humidity in my little box?

The little ones are doin great 4 have grown quit a bit the other 2 are still recoverthe light burn. I'm considering starting an 20/4 for a couple weeks since they are 2 wks today but im gonna do a little more research first. Will post pics later

So had a few complications but managed to fix them I was using spring water and it has a high ph. Flushed and translplated to forever homes (baby formula cans). I have been doing research on 12/12 from seed and have decided to flower early because of space issues. Here are some updated pics. Plant 2 and 3 were the same hight until and unfortunate accident happened. It seems that it won't grow up and longer just out. Plant 1 was very small until I started flowering and after I introduced my homemade Co2 generator. Plant 4 was affected by the ph imbalance the most. Since the flush, I now water with tap water boiled and left out over night. Plant 5 was affected by the light burn. It lost most of it's leaves and was looking really bad. I put it close to the Co2 generator and let it do it's thing. Palnt 6 didn't survive the light burn. I believe it had extreme heat stress as well. The temp had been 101 for 18 hrs and it was close to 2 bulbs and was right under 2 more. These plants seem to be extremely tough and resilient.

A few close ups of plants 1 and 4. I hope this means that they're females! The first four are one plant and the last two are plant four. I couldn't see this on the others. One of the others seems to be starting but the two that were topped due to accidents don't show a signs of budding yet.

Woke up this morning to a better sight than I expected. Plant 1 was a male very disappointing, but plants 2,4,and 5 are females. I will post picks as soon as my camera clearly shows them.
