Wow! just read this entire thread, lot going on. I've got a glh v2 290w in a 2x4x5 tent. got a grow journal going right now on it. I appreciate all the information that's been shared in this thread, it's been very helpfull. My led is accompanied by two 6500k cfls. I've had what I thought to be nute burn, but other than that so far healthy growth. It's a major bummer, the problems with these things, considering the money we all invested. Thanks again! feel free to check in and see if my luck is any better!

well It's hard to translate the power from 720 watts worth of leds to something like that of a HPS light. However I'd imagine it's like 1600-1800 watts. White light and the rest of the spectrum must play some kind of role in resin production and growth like UV for instance. So maybe you only need 1 spectra; some white 4500k lighting.

At least the rest of us can avoid problems like these; good luck to you in the future.
These lights are making me bipolar and indecisive. I should have already sold them and dropped a 1000 in the tent lol. I don't know what to think or believe. Based on what you said and what Mike says, the LED's "should" outperform HID considering their said PAR values, but we know that's not remotely the case. Lets say 720 watts = 1600-1800 watts of HPS light as you stated. That would assume that 400 watts of LED would perform along side a 1000 watt HPS. This is pretty much what Mike is telling me and I can't allow myself to buy into what seems such a ridiculous concept. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt but if this were the case it would insinuate that HID's won't be used for cultivation for much longer. A hard pill to swallow.

I'm running two lights (360 watts) now for the past few days and the flowering development is still at least 12-14 days behind my 600 HPS. Still pulling charred leaves but not nearly as many as before. The 400 equip should be here today, I hope to set it up tonight and will run a 400 MH with the 2 x 180 LEDs :D

Hah I just read the last line of the post right behind mine. My bad :) great minds think alike
No worries, I have a tendency to run my mouth more than is necessary lol. Cross your fingers! Would you kill the LED's altogether and add them back into the mix one at a time or just add the 400 MH and see what happens. Hmmm.

I got tracking info from Mike today, he also tells me he will send me PAR test results on these lights later today. I will stay on him for that info and share it when if and when I get it.

EDIT:

Dropped the 400 in last night between 2 of the 180's. Temps back up to 86 but the RH is dropping into the 30's. I raised the RH in the room about 10% to see how the tent reacts. Burning through 20# Co2 tanks @ about one per week. Hoping for some improvement over the next week.

i seen one grower add HPS to his leds and all issues went away. their just too intense and i guess some plants just cant handle them from what ive read? IDK i have no issues so dont really know what it looks like but from pics ive seen looks like a mag issue sometimes or just frying. i am thinking the sillica i use has somthing to do with me not having issues? IDK its a strain thing? some still dont have issues and i cant figure out why this is? Mike said the new power supplies will fix it but ive yet to see a grow with the new ones. please post if the lights a dimmer or what u notice with the power supplies in? the crazy thing is i never had issues even with the 2x500w lights at 10" if some 180's are going to fry a plant my should have been on fire.lol

no 400w led will match a 1k HPS, ive never seen it and dont think i will. led will match or do a little better watt for watt with better frost and less heat stress in hot temps. ive seen side x sides and i will no believe it until i see proof.

if it were me i would run CMH with the leds

Thanks for your thoughts Irish, I appreciate it. Although if the LED's are too intense I don't see how adding more light would make issues go away. The way I see it is that if the added light makes things better while two lights were still frying my plants then its not an intensity issue, its a wavelength issue. I'm using a silicate, but not the dyna-grow product. Using cal-mag as well but still the issues. They're definitely better with two lights instead of four, now I'm just waiting to see how they react with 2 lights and the 400 MH. If they're happy I will roll with it for awhile before I try anything new lol. Just want to try to save this grow and move forward. I also am very interested in CMH. I almost grabbed one but this unit came with 2 bulbs already so I'm waiting to see the response.

Could be a strain thing but its doubtful, I've ran 3 strains through, all are sick and I just added a 4th strain. What silica product are you using and what strengths are you administering it? Mine calls for a very small amount, 1/4-1/2 tsp per gallon. I'm glad things are going well in your tent - FUCK CASEY JONES! I will share pics of the lights when I get one of the supplies switched to show a side by side.

ive only seen one person do the lights thing with HPS. its my understanding that the light or protons bounch around and mix the light or cut threw it and thats why adding HPS like helped the other grower?

i was mainly using sillica from Grow tekt but i was using dyna grows in veg but got the other as i ran out. used 1tsp per gal and it was 7.8% with DG stuff. the one i used for the flower phase was 3.8%? maybe its the Dyna Gro nutes that made it where i had no issues? it really dosent make sense and theirs others that have no issues with even the V1's and V2's on other forums some used Jacks classic and some OC+. theirs a hydro guy that is not having issues and thing he is running GH? Google will show links to that forum.

but at the end their is growers having issues and thats not cool. IDK what happen from 2010 to 2011? the 2010's had no issues and rocked out!

From what Mike is telling me this should bring the 2011 V1's back to identical to the 2010 models. A "going back to what works" mentality. He said the 2010's worked well and they figured well hell lets just throw some more wattage at these and they expected them to crank dank....... I'm going to up my silica a notch I think too. Thanks Irish! Given you have probably the most experience with the lights I'm glad to hear your opinion on things.

Tent was back down to 81F and 42% humidity. Its a little early to tell but I think things are looking better already. I will put some pics up tonight if I have the chance.

so if V1-V3 are each different and also different from the 2010 model, how does changing a ps and lowering the output of the same lites bring it magically back?

V1 - red/blue 90* lens. new spectrums from the proved 2010 models. made in 100,180,290,500 Watts
V2 - red/blue/white/orange 90* lens. added the white and orange, heavier on the orange side. almost an HPS look to the leaves... made in the same wattages as V1's
V3 - red/blue/orange 90* lens, white is 120* lens. this one heavier on the white side. lower wattages. the glass is removed from the case. there is a protective coating on the connections. CAREFUL... you can get shocked!!! i was told they were made 100,150,250,450 with the new power supplies.

IDK what happen bro? i know the 2010's rocked out and know issues. i like the 2011's but i also dont have issues so its hard for me to say. who knows maybe this grow i will?lol. hope not.

it seems to happen in the 3rd week of flowering for some reason? all i know is i am keep the same feeding as i have but am going full hydro so lets hope all is well? its just hard to say what i think is causing it or what it might be since ive never seen it in person or on my girls? its strange because theirs others that have no issues and want to buy some of the ones that people are returning for a good discount. their on other forums but i can maybe hook u up with them if u want to sale yours for cheaper? i know they were wanting to buy others that had issues because they like their V1's and V2's and wanted more.

ive seen flame wars over this issue and i try to stay out of it since its not my issue and its Mikes and his problem, i for one like the 2011's and still have them up and i even still own the 2010's 300w lights, if i do have a issue i will swap out for my 2010's because i know for a fact those lights are great with not one issue, but as of now even though ive seen others have issues i have no problems with the 2011's and will still rock them out because i love the buds i just pulled from them and i save allot of money on the power. i am just barely testing these new lights though because of all the heat issues in the summer time so time will tell.

Update soon.....

I wanted to let everyone know about a setup I visited this last weekend. He's using a 180w Spectra exactly like mine. One single unit in a 3 x 3 space with 2 plants super cropped for max penetration. Straight happy frog soil with PH water no nutes. He's 2 weeks into flower and his plants are of absolutely perfect health. His light was about 4" away when I saw them. They're at day 16 of flower today and they were looking similar to one of mine at day 25-30. I will share some pics from my phone when I have time later this week. He's most likely going to add another light for 1 light per plant.

Why am I not subscribed to this shit yet? After the wine wears off I'm going to give everything a little bit of an overview and see if I have any input. But as of right now, it seems that you forgot the law of KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid
