MG Soil + AF Nute Question

Hey all,

1st time grower (no shit, right, this is the Newbie forum ). Anyway, i'm gonna be growing some AF northern lights in MG soil. Gonna start out in MG seed starting mix and transplant to MG organic. Both soils are gonna be mixed w/ perlite and maybe some lime.

First off, I'm using MG soil no matter what, so this doesn't need to turn into a "let's convince him how shitty MG is and why he should get something else" thread.

Alright, got that out of the way....So, here's the actual point of the thread. I want to use nothing but RO water and superthrive during veg, then nothing but RO water and molasses during flowering. Has anyone done something like this, not using ferts during the grow? What about my plan; is this going to work?

I would also like some advice/suggestions for growing in MG soil from those who have actually grown in it before and had success (again, don't talk shit about MG and tell me to get something else, just help me with what I have).

By the way, I'm using 6 23-watt CFL's (4 6500k, 2 2700k for veg, and vice versa for flowering). Thanks homies

LIGHTING IS PERFECT FOR 1 PLANT AND MOLASSES IS ONLY USED IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS OF FLOWER CAUSE IT FEEDS THE MICROBES IN THE SOIL THAT THE PLANT USES NOT THE PLANT USING THE MOLASSES

BUT YOU CAN USE SUPERTHRIVE IN FLOWER TOO

it is a vitamin supplement and contains trace amounts of plant hormones...
it is NOT a nutrient or cloning hormone....
You use it in combination with your existing nutes
you can add it to a reservoir/solution when cloning

My friend has grown in MG soil with success. He did run into a few problems but it saved in a lot of money soil wise and was happy with it.

Superthrive is great. Love the stuff.

Most mg ferts are pre nuted so take it easy on them and also with mg you NEED to watch the watering, I grow with it and it works just fine, its just the nutes are released via the water put into it so if you make the mistake (like I did my first grow) of overwatering the results can be catostrophic. Welcome to growing be good to her and she will reward you greatly. As for lighting it should be fine just keep em close so as to avoid stretching.

MG Organic rocks. Is your tap water so hard that you need RO? And I like an aggressive rate with the sugar daddy. that's just me. ahh... and mb some epsom salts in your mix. I have no exp with superthrive.

Nice guys, thanks for the advice....I will actually be starting the grow right after New Year's (gonna go out of town for week and half during holidays), but I'm pretty sure I can get away with no ferts during veg. How long into flower can I use ST?

So, what's the consensus on using RO water and molasses during flowering w/ no ferts?

Yeah, my tap water is hard, but isn't RO water pretty neutral ph wise? Are there any disadvantages to using RO water? The water machine at Wally World only costs like 37 cents a gallon for RO water so its pretty affordable and I would rather have neutral ph water rather than having to deal w/ ph issues and cause nute lockout (if that even matters since I am trying to go without using nutes).

mg moisture control works great, mix with some perlite, dolmite lime with a lil bit of steer manuire and you'll have a good mix, have tried not using any nutes and by the end weeks of flowering your leaves really want some nitrogen and stuff will yellow like crazy. Think what happen is the mg nutes start wearing out in the soil?, could be wrong on that. Better to use 1/4 solution nutes of somesort at least every couple of waterings or so and definitely use superthrive with every watering. things will stay greener and happier that way. the mg mc is good because it doesnt have big chunks of crap in it like the mg organic, works good with rooted clones too.

molasses is only used in the last 4 weeks of flower cause it feeds the microbes in the soil that the plant uses not the plant using the molasses

just means your getting real no bull soil

I use mg soil for my mothers and it does real well! Just remember that if you dont plan on using any kind of ferts or teas mg soil will not have anything left after 6-8 weeks of total plant life! Definately use the organic soil for seedlings and clone then go to the hard stuff! And also try using DE oil dry from autozone or napa instead of perlite or use both the de will give you some water retention and a good dose of silicon too!

Make sure it is Unsulphered.

The majority of calcium and magnesium in molasses will never be available to the plant. The calcium just builds up in the medium possibly causing other issues. And plants do not absorb carbs through their roots. They produce their own carbs within the plant itself. And the bennies are already being fed by your nutrient program, why do you all think they need additional food?

I will still use Sugar Daddy during veg at 10ml/gal every third watering. Then 40ml/gal last four weeks of their life. Never had any Ca build up. I've also used a rich, home made medium, and used nothing but MG Bloom Booster during flower. It worked. Since I like to add small amounts first then stand back and watch...I've not seen any toxicity. I think you have a resonable plan, go with it.

Don't have a ppm tester, but can test ph....what would 150ppm be in ph numbers?

Anyone ever used BOTANICARE PURE BLEND PRO SOIL BLOOM FERTILIZER? I'm thinking about something like this for ferts during flowering....
