More Likely to Hermie?

Are autos more likely to hermie than normals?

My first auto experience, was bloody mary (samara seeds). I did it in a 12/12 room after it showed preflowers = hermie (big time).

My second auto experience, 5 g13 pineapple express auto. I did these 20/4 (thinking 12/12 was the original problem) but something has hermied in there too. I can't find it, and it isn't "bad" like last time but probably 10% are pollinated.

It has to be something I'm doing.

I didn't have a pH meter until 3-4 weeks ago, i was giving them water at 4.0-5.0 range (yikes) So entire first grow got only this, but pineapple express have been getting correct water since starting flowering.

I pull all fan leaves in the center of the plant and any that shaded a bud-site

would either of those things cause my plants to do this?

pulling off the fan leaves could really stress the plant out, which is probably what's causing your hermie problems..

not trying to be a dick, but why on earth would you pull all of the fan leaves off your plants?? the leaves are what the plants use for photosynthesis, and therefore how they grow...
next time, don't pull any leaves till they are dead or dying... my money is on the fact that you stressed them out by pulling the fans off of them, as autos are no more prone to hermie than any other plants... :)

The plant grew those leaves for a reason. Unless they're half dead or you're removing little growths or bud sites that won't amount to much then do not pull the fan leaves off. Plants use leaves for a myriad of reasons. Food storage, respiration and transpiration, food production, etc.

Question somewhat related to the topic: Would a hermaphrodite autoflower produce feminized seeds because no male gametes were exchanged? Would that be the case for an autoflowering hermaphrodite that pollinated another autoflower?

dont pull off anything ,
let bad leaves and leaves covering buds fall away,
your plant is clever enough to shed what it does not need, Peace.

Even if they cover a site leave them?
You have to understand that every fan leaf is like a life support machine for your plant,
your hurting them,
try more to concentrate on why the leaves are yellowing, over nutes , ph def etc,

I'm not sure if that is exactly true because I have read a way to produce feminized seeds is to spray your buds with colloidal silver, which is a solution of silver and distilled water at around 70 ppm I believe. This causes your bud to pollinate itself, thus producing feminized seeds. You can produce it at home with a silver bar or two and some batteries, wires and connectors and such.

yes that is how someone goes about making fem seeds...but he has a natural hermie and it can/will pass on the hermie gene to its offspring so you have a big chance all the seeds can/will be hermie..

He said he was watering his plants with acidic water and pulling all the leaves off. It's likely stress related from what I would imagine. I was speaking in general, not specifically in regards to his plant.

since i've turned 2 different strain into hermie I'd think also its ALL me. Any strain has the potential to hermie if stressed enough I'd suspect.

I'll save them and try it out, probably have couple hundred :-).

and...if anyone ever wanted to know how to MAKE a fem hermie...lol

The main stress caused to plants that makes them turn herm is irregular light and heat patterns.

back to the OP's question the only auto I've had hermi or become a straight male that was suppposed to be a fem seed is Santa from Flash Seeds. A great strain if you can get one to hold fem on you. I've had mad issues with Flash Seeds and won't be patronizing them in the future.
