im finishing up a grow with airpots and smartpots.
My airpots outperformed the smartpots by a lot. Bigger plants, bigger buds.
Because i wanted my plant to be short and fat . i cut the airpot down with an exacto knive.. about 3-4 inches off the top. I like the results alot.

I have each of the four plants in 30 liter/8 gal airpots. So far I'm liking them, however we'll see how my yield turns out...
Nice man, very nice how old are they?....30s are the biggest airpot grow ive seen will be good to see how it turns out for you mate.

Pukka , do you use coco by itself or do you amend the coco with anything ? perlite ?

I'm lacking pics for the moment, but I have my most recent cycle vegging briefly in 1 gallon airpots and flowering in the 2 gallon airpots. I've been using sunshine #4 advanced mix for my medium with a hydroton mulch at the top. I'm a little frustrated with the water absortion of the medium, I'm getting a lot of runoff through the holes along the sides of the pot. With that said, the growth has been unreal and very impressive. Attention must be paid during hand watering, slow and steady seems to be key. These pots are producing plants remiscent of 7 gallon traditional containers with fox farm ocean forest soil. I'm excited to see what my results can be with these, and I've got high hopes with large healthy plants in relatively small airpots. Seems like a very cool product!

^^ I've noticed I had to water a lot with the 10L (2.7)gal airpots. Almost every 2 days i was watering. Was watering just under 4 liters of water for every plant.

Next time I will step it up to 6+ liters water for every plant. Also How is the hydroton mulch on top of the soil working for you? I've seen a guy post on here about 10 pages back using that method. Is there any benefit to it ? does it help in any way ?

hey pukkabud, nice custom avi.. that was a one gallon smartpot in between the 2 airpots in my last picture. its really amazing what a pot can do for a plant.
these bubblebombs just keep exploding . i dont know how much longer to be honest. Its a day to day thing at this point. i would like to give a good flush and drown them too if i can.
Its amazing how much you can control the size of a plant by the size of the pot. I have 3 pineapple chunks in 1 gallon smartpots that are like freakin trees. Im super happy i have them in small pots because if they werent they would be ENORMOUS. seriously cant believe how massive they have gotten.

Thanks for the likes pukka bud, and thanks the response jpill! Yeah watering needs have definitely increased, Im considering bumping up to the next size of airpot myself. Also, the hydroton mulch is based on an article I read. The gardener talked about the tertiary (first or top) zone in your soil being a tough spot for roots to inhabit. The temperature swings are more drasctic due to direct light exposure, the water when top watered disrupts the soil and creates channels. He said that in the worst cases you are reducing your potential rooting area by 25% by not using a mulch. Hydroton is the perfect medium for it, I fill the soil right up to the top row with holes in the air pot, then the hydroton to the brim in the plugged reservoir zone. The water filters right through so being filled all the way isnt a problem, and the hydroton insulates the medium and mildly disperses the water evenly preventing soil disruption. A few of my plants dont have it, and they dont show as many roots in the top layer and feel more unstable and less anchored. Its a cheap and reusable solution, I think its worth a look for all growers. It made sense when I read the article and I think its a pretty neat trick.

Also, for my first watering I actually took my airpots and completely submerged them with the plant already in into my drum of water and nutes. It really allowed for maximum absorption of water through every hole and the bottom as well, and I've noticed the sunshine 4 advanced mix almost requires it to get fully wet and activate wetting agents in the soil to help the medium absorb water and bond to the h2o molecules during future waterings. Wondering if anyone else has tried it too...

quick questions from a new grower.
I have done a few successful grows but on most of my grows as it gets into several weeks 5+ of flower they seem to stop growing and I wish I had pictures of my roots but they do look all bound up and wrapped around the outer part of the buckets. Is this what air pots eliminate?

My other main question is can i use soil in air pots as i have never used coco but the main reason is i have many large bags of soil i wish to use up and i can buy some nice air pots here locally today.

thanks in advance

I had hard time with runn off through the holes at first pal its natural !!
If using cocco or any medium the same as try and make a crater in the soil and make sure the pots are full to the brim of which eva medium u use as instead of it running down the sides of your pots and out the holes it goes through the centre of your medium first and wicks out to the edges with minimal loss out of side holes
chedz!!
