My First Grow! I Have A Few Questions.

I'm really stoked that things are going well. I need to clone these girls too. I have a friend that wants to get started and I need to plan for the other tent... Wife gave me the go ahead. :fire:

It's actually the Sun Blaze fixture with the 53 Watt 6500k T5 lamps. I figured I'd veg all the way with this and then go into the tent with the 600 Watt HPS lamp. I just read somewhere that using room temp water was the way to go. I've been PHing the water to 6.4. I have RO in the house but even that seems to come out at 8.6 or so. I've been preparing 1 gallon at a time and setting it in the room but this last time I forgot and rushed it. :wall:

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

I have the same exact T5 setup, Hydrofarm designer series, correct? I use it to start seeds and clones. I use it to veg as well from the moment they get put into dirt up through to about the beginning of the 3rd or 4th week. I then add my 400w MH but still use the T5 on the wall focusing on lower branches(instead of cutting them off or "lollypopping" like so many people do). These T5's are great for flower too so T5 haters don't get it twisted lol. With a HO bulb with the proper Kelvin temperature(2100, 2700, or 3000K) these babies produce just about as dense a bud as a 400 or 600 watt HPS. It will veg and flower plants good by itself but with a tiny bit of umph from a slightly larger light source will show in your yield. Nonetheless T5 is cheaper to run and is a lot less of a heat emitter. Your light is set perfect now bud keep it that close ALL THE TIME. My leaves may lay on a bulb here and there and with an oscillating fan going you will most likely not burn a thing. Looking good bro.

btw the water temp going into a plant does not matter a whole lot. Obviously you wouldn't use ice water but it is ok to use water that is cold to the touch. If you were baking in 90 degree heat all day wouldn't you like a cold glass of water?

Everything you said is spot on bro. That is exactly why T5's are so great to use from seed/clones through veg and on. You'll see a lot of growth at that bottom node. Soon it will look like a bush. That will support the plant to extend and grow up and out. T5's also build wicked solid branches and trunks as it were lol(like that, stealing it). Good job man keep us updated!

ah no problem brotha. Yeah those two T5 setups are basically identical. My bulbs are just a watt more at 54 w/bulb. As far as the water temp goes it's all preference. Do what works for you bro and it looks to be working good! Peace

Well you got me again. They are 54 watt but the fixture is a Sun Blaze Fixture. I was actually looking at the T5 12 lamp with built in air cooling when I bought this one. When I figured it would be on 24/7 I thought... Hmmm... Bad enough with the 600 12 hours a day... Do I really need 86,000 lumens of 6500k to veg a few plants? Me thinks not.

haha no prolley don't need that many lumens unless you've got a large room. I thought that it was 54w but I couldn't remember. It's funny, sunblaze and hydrofarm's versions of the T5 ho are pretty much identical even in looks. Yeah you'll be rocking and rolling soon lol.

thats up for debate. some don't like topping. you miss out on the big colas by diverting energy this way, imo. i do both ways but thats just me.

Here is a quick update. I added the Mylar, new 6" fans and ratchet ropes. Also a cool black light poster of Bob!

Yeah some don't like topping. Although they say it diverts energy which may be true I'll take the 5% loss on a cola considering I have 3 more on the same plant. Just saying....lol

I love what you're doing brotha. Same exact way(for the most part) how I start ALL my MMJ. You WILL see great results as long as you keep your PH balanced and don't overfeed esp at this stage. Deff on the right track bro. On the heat issue once you start to flower...Do you live in an apartment building? Also I wanted to show you how I had mine setup when I was at that point. Very similar indeed.

I believe this was my third or 4th week from seed. It's the Hydrofarm 4' 4bulb T5 HO 6400K bulbs/Sunblaze sinle 4' T5 HO 6400K bulb.

The beauty of topping...twice the colas and all the lower braches connected to them. Your yield will multiply believe me.

Full view of them all at that point

I live in a large home with ~1/4 acre around me. I am thinking I'll just suck in air from outside through a filter and into my hood. It'll just go right out the other side of the tent without leaking into the grow room. The evenings here are in the high 50's. If I run at night I should be able the keep things closed up with CO2 pads. Jury is still out on those; since this is my first grow I'll experiment a little. bongsmilie
