sounds like a good start, im using 10 of the 26w cfls in homemade reflectors.miricale grow potting soil, with good results.
in a 2' x 5' closet i can get 4 good regular growth plants 5' tall , or 10 sea of green, i started out much like u and cfls work.
as u expand u might look into Sea of green or screen of green.

yeah i have looked into SoG and ScROG actually have a ScROG screen made up and had 2 males grow through it so i took it out.

i dont really have any issues with MG soil but the peat moss and perilite i dont like. im just thinking im going to start growing organic, my new worm bin should provide some nice "juice" to water my plants with and its dam near impossible to nute burn plants with organics.

I did start a journal, and some help requests, I don't get many replies..I agree 100% I've been lovin them to death,...but I'm trying hydro, bought a CAP ebb&grow..the damn brain bucket has never worked properly/leaks from the grommets, that's a whole other story, I won't send it in for repair unless they send a replacement, they want me to pay near 300 for another bucket (when the WHOLE system with 12 pots cost 390.00, I paid like 56 extra to get a 6 pot add on, my plant limit is 15, and why grow 12 if you can grow 15, right, lol))So I was having to plug it in 3x a day, let it run it's fill...then turn dial till it decides to drain, and this morning it wouldn't even drain on the drain cycle...it's a load of bs, I am fighting with the company because I have spent the money for a new unit, I beleive they se4nt me a reconditioned unit just due to wear and tear looking stuff, scuffs, scratches, etc..and I have only been using it 2 1/2 weeks...so THAT is where my 7 baby girls are...can't leave home, have to water them 3-4x a day..3 of the plants stunted and quit growing so I decided to peel away the 4" rockwool block, and the roots were wrapping in circles in the hole on top, I had loosely packed a seperate cube I chopped up to use since I didn't germ in rockwool, I germed in solo cups of perlite, thery took off pretty fast, 7/10 made it, 3 just got as far as their lil tail, I planted them, and they stopped development there, so nirvana is sending an extra 5 pak of fem seeds with my next order.
TBO..wish I knew someone like you local that just has a way with plants, i'd sign my 15 plants over to ya so at least I would have some weed instead of a huge compost pile!
My plants started out pretty great, then started to fizzle..some started to lower their leaves, almost in self defense..hmm.. instead of being stretched out to the light, so I thought maybe the 1000 watt MH either was a used bulb someone scammed me on (got it on amazon)or it does work and it was too much for babies...(I read a grower comment another newb that 1000 watts was too much for 3 wk old plants) so I put my HO T-5 4' 8 bulb unit over them last night, qand they are actually already looking better this morning..I have had a few leaves get brownish spots on them, first it was just 1...today I noticed 3 leaves on 3 diff plants have this (looks like the mag def in the pics) But I even added 3 TBSP epsom salt to my now 30 gal res (it holds 65 but that is entirely wasteful in nutes if you have to change em out every couple weeks) I started out using the Lucas ratio, with GH micro and bloom alone, then after much reading on veg growth I read in many places the ratio lacks in veg stage, so I ordered the grow, also, so this res change yest got all 3 parts, Grow, micro and bloom (I went about 20 ml less than recommended dose on all 3)
And I DO talk to them, I actually spend hours a day in the grow room, not being able to work anymore it's been a life saver, this new hobby, as far as something to take up my days..
My problem is I give up on things way too quick, and am very impatient..lol. after buying the full line of foxfarms nutes, including all the bells and whistles like kangaroots and microbe brew, spent like 5-600 just on them, gave 2x to my plants, burnt them both times at 1/4 strength, so I tossed em aside, got rid of the soil...and started new seeds for the hydro setup. Then had to buy the hydro nutes, cause they were for soil mostly, though some parts can be used in hydro..I wanted something without 12 different bottles, one or two was ideal when I first stumbled on the Lucas formula...but this is going to be expensive shit..at 25-30 a bottle I have only 3 weeks from germ and only 1 rez change and have used quite a lot of the micro and bloom already..id say 3 changes takes about 1/4 a bottle...I can see why some people do the addback...but I suck at math.
Oh and just some background, I can grow any veggie in an outdoor garden that is kick ass, but I guess because of WHAT I am growing now, I'm way too over analytical about every little thing,I wasted over 2 months vegging my first set of plants, and all but 1 are now compost, I had over watered so much the roots got ill...so I got this 20$ SMALL sachet of dark grey powder called oregonism XL(THEY SEE ME COMING A MILE AWAY AT THE 2 HYDRO STORES i FREQUENT)...all good bennies for the roots, supposedly! I used 1/2 rec dose, next day all my foliage had all drooped and was grey(like gunpowder grey, same exact color as the product I had put into 4 small holes I dug around the root ball..shit looked like it was covered with mold, so I ditched all of them but 1 clone I had rooted and only gave 1 tsp of the stuff, it lost most its foliage but is starting to get new growth now..It is a romulanxgrapefruit.
Thanks for the kind reply, and taking the time to do so...
You have yourself a wonderful, safe and happy New Year!!!

Give it 2 weeks.. And for flowering get more than 2 more bulbs. Cfls ate good but u need a decent amount and good reflectivity. Get them close as possible. Good luck;)

Alright im done with my indoor compost project lets see if i can break it down pretty easily for everyone who is interested in what i did, i will also be updating my composts status to let everyone know how this is working oput for me and if there is any smell or whatnot.

first thing is first, supplies. wal-mart 20$ for stackable totes and about 10 bucks for 3 packages of trout worms, not sure exactly what kind they are but they will work untill i get the red wrigglers in, going to order about a pund of them as soon as i can but for now these trout worms will still work. hell they may even be the right kind
View attachment 1967732View attachment 1967733View attachment 1967734View attachment 1967735

the last pic above is a pic i found online of a red wrigglers that are supposedly the fastest at decomposing, the ones i got look pretty similar so im thinking they are the right kind.

once i got my supplies i went ahead and started making my bedding, some dry leaves i went and collected previously for my outdoor compost bin. my research on this told me that the finer they "bedding" is broken down the faster this works and as most of you know im a inpatient soab. i used the lawnmower to chop up the leaves

View attachment 1967755View attachment 1967756View attachment 1967758

i have a bagger for mower it worked pretty good.
after i had the material chopped up i dumped a few gallons of hot water on it to moisten it.

the next step was to prepare the totes, and ideal bin should have good drainage and ventilation. i was going to cut up some small screen and zip tie it on top of all the holes in the bottom but decided the holes were of a small enough size there was no need.
View attachment 1967775View attachment 1967777

this thing supposedly can drip water and if it gets too dry you have to water it so you need something to catch the water, instead of placing the tote inside another tote propped up with bricks i just bought a thin tote and modified it so that the compost bin can sit on top of it with the lid on. i just cut out the 2 lowest imprints on the lid and snapped the lid back on, i really like these totes because the lids have "locks"
View attachment 1967784

at this point i would be ready to add worms but i went a little further. i have a coffee can that sits on the counter and food waste goes in it. well the other day i put some dairy products in it not knowing they werent good compost material so i dumped it into my outside bin and had to make up some kitchen waste. grabbed the dirty grounds out of the coffee pot, emptied a couple eggs out into the dogs dish and rinsed the shell and crumbled them (4 eggshells) and grated up some potatoe. i also grabbed some plain cardboard and any "brown" paper i could find, anything without ink because i dont want the chemicals from the ink in my compost. ripped em up and soaked in hot water. after they were saturated i rung them out and fluffed em up and they went on top, this actually made a nice layer on the top that the worms can live in and i can put the kitchen waste inder the layer of cardboard.

View attachment 1967820View attachment 1967823View attachment 1967824View attachment 1967826View attachment 1967822View attachment 1967821

and after i got all that put together i just added the worms and closed the lid :)

View attachment 1967829

now i have my verry own way to make my own organic worm castings, i will use the runoff water to feed my plants a nice organic "tea". i know worm castings are cheap but now i know exactly what goes into mine and it also saves money on trash bags ass alot of kitchen waste can be utilized. i am hoping by the time i start my next grow (in about a month) i will have some really rich organic compost to use for a good 75% base medium to grow in.

hope you guys enjoyed my my little in experienced tutorial and please if you are familiar with this style composting and see there is something I could improve upon feel free to comment.

:peace:
Matt

alright now onto planting these clones in some dirt. i bought this bag of dirt and a bag of organic perilite, so no chemicals whatsoever in this stuff. gonna go ahead and mix em up and get these clones into thier new home. bout these popcorn containers at dollar store for 2 for a buck. wasnt going to pay 2$ a container and couldnt find shit at wal mar and any other local store for cheap greenhouse pots.

these containers are probally going to be thier final home, i know they are small but they are 12/12 now and i dont have alot of room in my cab so this is going to have to do.

going to upload all the pics for compost up here so they are easier to navigate just have to sort out wich ones go where.

clones planted and happy to say 100% success, i opened every one of them up and they all had some form of a root started, nothing major but hoping thats aii need, now hopefully they root well in thier new home.

hard to see in some of the pics did them best i could.

im starting to think i should have just planted all 8 of them into a 5 gal bucket but too late now and a 5 gal bucket wouldnt fit into my cab as well
