18/6 never again

I'm doing 20/4 right now myself. I have two reasons why I do this. One, in nature, obviously there is night time. Second, I like to foliar feed my plants, and this needs to be done in the dark, as the leaves take in the nutrients in the dark, and it prevents leaf burn. Just my gig.

I totally agree. From my experience it seems that the plants need dark time. I would say even 23/1 is better than 24 hours.

I have a tall ceiling advantage (9 feet) so I usually veg until about 5 feet or so and then move them to the bud room for 12/12. I am not saying that my way is right and yours isn't... I am just sharing info on what works for me. 90% of my grow is from female clones. I usually have the lights in the humidity box at 24 hours until the clones root (5 to 8 days) with 82° F temperature and 100% humidity under Sylvania Powerball 24w metal halide spot lamp, then move to the veg area where they get 18/6 until they grow up to 5 feet or so 68° to 74° F. Humidity in the 50s under a bank of 54w t-5 HO fluorescent lamps Then to the bud room for 12/12 under several 400w HPS lamps with the same temp and slightly drier humidity as my veg room. My system has provided me a fair yield. I have strict HVAC controls which is a big plus in a good grow. Obviously I am stoned because I am rambling on....

Here's my 2 cents for what it's worth! I run a 12 on 5 off, 2 on, 5 off, cycle and have reduced my electric consumption, see absolutely no difference in development, and get less stretch and quicker bud formation when they are moved to 12/12 for flowering. Two strains have responded well with this, and will be trying some of Sannies gear under it once I receive the seeds.
Also, it's working for seeds and cuts both. Take care and good growing all.

12/1 schedule light cycle starts @ 7am for 30 minutes then off for 30 minutes till 7pm then the lights are off for 5.5 hrs then on for 1hr then off till 7am, the saved money on power can be spend on better bulbs to off set the wear on bulbs if using hid, if you veg under t5 or any floresent system you just saves money, i use this timer http://www.homedepot.com/Electrical-Dimmers-Switches-Timers/h_d1/N-bm2dZ5yc1v/R-100685864/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053, the thing i notice the most is the plants are way bushier and there is less light stretch when i put them in to flower, since the stretch is caused from lack of light during the 12/12 cycle having more periods of darkness using12/1 the plants are less of a light junky racing to the light when it comes time to flower, bud density can increase as well due to less streching (internode spacing), holy shit it's a blizzard outside lol sorry got to go get the 1/8 scale RC out and go drift in the snow

I just spent a few hours watching The Weed Nerd on Youtube. It is a bullshit session with Subcool that I find cool as fuck. Anyway I just watched episode ten and jumped back here to comment about his take on this. He answered a question about this and says that plants need sleep. They build up special chemicals that they need later. Go with 18/6. I have yet for subcool to say anything that I question or dislike. Now I've heard alot of good shit about the 12/1 cycle and I just haven't checked into it enough yet, but I will. I have been stealing ideas off Buddy Ganja about a veg room. He took a 4x4 grow tent and put it on it's side and uses two 600's. That's a good idea, but I am thinking about just in same thing. Twelve feet long for three 600's and then on top of that will be a bench (taller though obviously) and I can put a turbo cloner on there and a few t5 for clones and seeds. Then at the end of that 'bench' frame closet for momma's. So I may throw this together over next few weeks (or days) and then practice. After some medication and meditation on this I think I will go 18/6 or 12/1. I guess I need to find out if the short spacing from the 12/1 will help with my SCROG training or make it longer and more tedious. Maybe I am wording it fucked up.

But then you have Ed Rosenthal saying exactly the opposite, they do not need sleep at all... Who to believe lol.. Just based on my own experience I'm still going to stick with 24/0... it's faster..

I was on house arrest and Ed was in TC for a convention. I have been a fan for decades with High Times, etc. Anyway I paid my ol lady to go to convention and take notes blah blah blah, get him to sign my book. She fucking came home high as fuck with it signed, but addressed to her. . Yes, I do mumble fucking bitch under my breathe everytime I see the book. Just kidding. kinda.

cheers mate ..the biggest plants are in 10 litre pots............my smallest are in 6-6.5 litre pots...............the big bubblegum thats like a christmas tree came in at 1709g wet weight...

Well, let' see. The planet and our Sun have been around billions of years. Plant life- millions and millions of years easily. Show us where plant life grows abundantly on this planet in nature with a 24/0 light schedule from the Sun. While lights are on, photosynthesis is creating energy to be stored for use later...like when it's dark out. There is good reason why humans and plants alike need some rest, it's healthy for us. Repair of cells, growth all happen WHILE we sleep. Not saying your results don't speak for themselves, but in general this is not the case. I do like the 24/0 energy cycle as it appears to the utilities though...there is no def 18 or 12 hr cycle to show up on your usuage chart. If you run more than one light bank, you can overlap them so your lights are on all the time just different in areas.

I've tried it both ways. My plants seem healthier with 18/6. In fact on some plants the water leaves and newer growth on the top relax just before lights out, and are perky when they come back on which indicates to me that they crave the darkness. I want to keep my plants healthy, happy and stress free. My veg plants are under a bank of 54w t-5 HO fluorescent lamps. I bud under High Pressure Sodium.

I use the same type of set up and I love the attention to detail. You're probably a good parent and have well behaved pets, like me. Rock On!

True, but I consider that the exception to our planet...not the norm. Anybody here growing good ganja up there outdoors? Would be interesting to see. Most humans that try to work or not sleep for more than 5 days straight without sleep usually pass out from exhaustion. Just saying the 18/6 routine is more in line with nature, overall.
