Is 12/12 From Seed Worth The Time Saved?

I have a bunch of mixed genetic bag seed that I want to grow and I just hate the thought of vegging multiple plants for at least up to 2-3 months just to find they are males. So is 12-12 from seed worth the time saved even though each plant doesnt produce much?

you won't get as much that is for sure. If they are very sativa dominant it might be difficult to grow 12/12 from seed. You're usually best served growing 12/12 from seed with more indica based genetics. I agree with you on the not wanting to waste time with dudes. More or less why I grow autos. Males show themselves within two weeks.

Sounds like you need autoflowering plants. Just pay the seeds they pay themselves off very quick.

well all the bag seed i have ever grown from this baggie have been indica dom. i have never grown 12/12 from seed but i have seen pics of peoples plants growing like an ounce. i might as well give it a shot, but how long until they show sex? if its less than a month im gonna go ahead and switch the lights now but if its about a month then i might as well just veg em.

Sounds like you need autoflowering plants. Just pay the seeds they pay themselves off very quick.

i really do want to buy some feminized strains because there are a few strains that look SO tasty, but im not up for the whole buying seeds online right now cuz lets just say the area im in isnt exactly a medical state.

I have done 12/12 from seed and average around 28-29 days to see sex. The people who say they see it in 9 days don't mention their veg time while germinating. Honestly, pop some seeds now and keep it next to a window for a week or two. The longer you veg the better results you will see. If you go directly 12/12 from seed, expect for it to take around 10-14 weeks to finish.

well i have a few that have been vegging for a week and are a few inches tall so now would be a good time to flip the lights. i just know that last time i vegged plants i vegged for a month before switching the lights, then they didnt show sex for a week or 2 after that. im just gonna try 12/12 all the way this time.

get some autos man. You can easily get one oz if not well over that in 60-70 days. The Attitude and The Single Seed Centre are both well established reputable seed banks.

Autos req more light than running 12/12 from seed


Auto
24 hrs a day x 70 days = 1680hours of light.
20 hrs a day x 70 day = 1400 hours of light.
18 hrs a day x 70 days = 1120 hours of light.


Photo 12/12 from seed
12 hrs a day x 80 days = 960 hours of light.

Now depending on the type of lights you are using, that difference can mean a lot, or a little...

Right, I'm using LEDs that are under a 3 year warranty. I used to use HPS but the real way to max out autos for quick production is LED (if you want to save money and make growing autos worth your while).

I know and trust the company having bought several lamps from them. I pretty much leave them plugged in 24 hours a day and use anywhere from 130-150w of power to grow one plant 23.5 hrs on a day at 60-70 days yielding on avg around 2 zips per plant. Not too bad.

I know people who grow photos in my area, if you take really good care of your autos and most importantly have good genetics they'll stand up to most but not all photoperiod. Have you smoked much auto flowers and if so were they from a just auto garden or were they side projects on photoperiod grows to get some early smoke?

Yeah you'll never grow big donkey dicks like you can with a well vegged photo, but I've grown plenty of photos and if you're a small hobby garden it is so much easier. I've traded auto for photo bud and haven't had a gripe with my fellow gardening enthusiasts. The weight is still there for the days invested even if you don't have a 2 litre sized nugget to show for it. You can grow more than a gram per day per plant if you have the right pot size nutes ect.

Also thanks for the compliment and civil discussion. All I really want to get across is they've come a long way since the original lowryder and are serious options for home gardens and also fun for outdoor if you want to grab 2x crops in 1 grow season.

I have grew some Hindu Kush x AK47 autos that were decent, Like you said they probably would have been better If I had dedicated more time to them. Also I grew a Himalaya Blue Diesel auto that didnt amount to much, and tried to reveg on me... wtf since when do autos reveg, lol.

Also i have seen an Onyx and a few other Short Stuff Autos that were crap as well.

Yeah I've had some Short Stuff disasters and no longer patronize that seedbank. Him Blue Diesel is hands down the worst auto (in terms of potency) I've ever grown. Big Buddah, Sagmantha, and Delicious seeds bring the heat with their autos.

The reason it took a week or two to sex after the switch to 12/12, is the transition time. If you go 12/12 from seed, the plant will still need to become sexually mature before if shows, and you decide to grow or throw. It takes roughly a month for this to happen. The 12/12 thread will have alot of info in it for you. You will just have to wade through all the posts to find what you want. Or do like the rest and just ask. Being as you have bagseed, go for it. If it was a bought, stable strain, I wouldn't do it personally (12/12),as I would want the most bang for buck.

yea i already read MOST of the 12/12 from seed thread before i posted this. but still i figured id start a small one of my own. but i agree since its some bag seed theres nothing to lose in this experiment. i would NEVER, lemme repeat that.....NEVER grow a reputable strain 12/12 from seed. real waste of time and money.
