Tent Update -

Taking the HPS right out of the tent, may use a CMH at a later date but I'm going to get some bud out of this tent damn it. Going to run 2 @ 24 inches with careful placement, perhaps 3 at 36", still considering. Removed the screen from the tent and added several new plants. AK47, Top 44 (a second plant), Deep Purple x Haze new to the LED party.

i seen one grower add HPS to his leds and all issues went away. their just too intense and i guess some plants just cant handle them from what ive read? IDK i have no issues so dont really know what it looks like but from pics ive seen looks like a mag issue sometimes or just frying. i am thinking the sillica i use has somthing to do with me not having issues? IDK its a strain thing? some still dont have issues and i cant figure out why this is? Mike said the new power supplies will fix it but ive yet to see a grow with the new ones. please post if the lights a dimmer or what u notice with the power supplies in? the crazy thing is i never had issues even with the 2x500w lights at 10" if some 180's are going to fry a plant my should have been on fire.lol

no 400w led will match a 1k HPS, ive never seen it and dont think i will. led will match or do a little better watt for watt with better frost and less heat stress in hot temps. ive seen side x sides and i will no believe it until i see proof.

if it were me i would run CMH with the leds
Do not add HPS to these lights, it will only kill your plants faster. I'm switching out the power supplies tonight. I wouldn't be too sure about a 400w LED not matching a 1k HPS. Turns out these LED's are 60% more potent than the sun at 12" away in the red spectrum, unless I'm a complete idiot and I am interpreting this incorrectly LOL. I'm not even certain I can safely add a CMH at this point. CMH offers a nice wide spectrum but I don't want to add ANY more red light than the LED's provide already. The PAR value is +600 at 12" of the V1 180 most of which is in the red spectrum. Too much, too narrow.

very very good stuff bro!!! I got your PM!! I have been swamped but i wanted to leave this message while the discussion was hot...

is there any way we can disconnect or turn off some of these red leds? IB had suggested covering them up but I'm not so sure i want a fire hazard like that....

maybe something stupid like colored class over them or something?

edit... I just sent ya a PM... hope it all makes sense, i had to rephrase a few things to stay under the 5000 character limit!! hahahha get yourself a drink and a bong before ya read it!!!

I'm currently running (3) spectra 180 V1's - 140w power supplies at about 24-ish inches in a 4 x 4. Scrog failure is done and over, she actually tastes great in glass and stinks up the room like a skunk shit somewhere. Surprisingly potent considering how ugly she is and the lack of bud mass, and smells wonderfully through a grinder. She's not getting a tight trim, she's going to get weed whacked. I will find a use for her for hash or gifts. The younger plants look great, plants in mid-flower are sick but producing some ok buds.

The LED's are an interesting tech but I'm sorry to say I've ordered a digital 600 to put in the tent instead. I'm uncertain how much longer I will be experimenting with these lights, I'm afraid LED's are not for me at this point in time, a 600 HPS simply out performs them substantially and it is not detrimental to plant health. I will keep updating a while longer until I switch the light out but I think it will be sooner than later. A very costly experiment for which I have major regrets!

I know what you mean, switching mine out for 400 watt hps next grow. Currently, at 38 days flowering and after descent flowering under 1 -180 spectra, not seeing much from the spectras during flowering ( 290 and one 180 with extra 150 hps to help the electric company), seem to be major changes in the spectra line, and changing ps may not be the answer, but willing to wait 3 more weeks to see. little or no leaves left, but still hard to say the lites and not the environment on mine.

Changing PS is definitely not the answer, neither is adjusting height. I know for a fact there is an issue with the wavelength, its range and its intensity. Reducing power to reduce a spike in the spectrum, or raising the lights to do the same only results in the lights becoming less hazardous at the detrimental wavelength, and less effective on all others.

Hippy what versions of the lights are you using and what size is your space?

I own 2 180's putting out 140 watts each couldn’t say if they are V1 or V2 , but if V3's ever made it out I think they had no glass, lots of white, ( $400 each , ouch!!!) also because I had to be a terrible gardener I bought a 290 which puts out 230 watts much more reds ( $300 on ebay). I am currently in week 5 of flower, lites and plants are in 4 foot by 4 foot x 7 foot tent, around 20 inches from tops. I see glh is still working on the new website...

I haven't been to the website for awhile. I'm not convinced they will even be around this time next year.

Next grow going to use 180 and then 290 to veg then go to hps 400 for flowering, going from seed so dont expect any root nats and hope no spider mites, but maybe some bud...

It could be worse, I really think these lights will make excellent veg lights at the very least. I'm considering switching out my T5's in my veg tents. Early veg tent is home for clones and seedlings out of the dome until they're ready for a 1 gallon pot. Next step is veg box which I also use T5's in. I'm inclined to remove the T5's and try the LEDS for veg once I pull them out of the flower box. They seem to work very nicely for vegetative growth, and a very close distance doesn't seem to cause any problems. I have not vegged with them but a friend has vegged some very nice looking plants under a 180. The pro on that end is no more bulb replacements I guess lol.

Vegging under LED's is the shit. I've never had as good of growth as I have in veg combining LED with T5 or CFL or a MH. And just LED by itself easily beats out T5 and CFL stand alone, and competes very well if not preforms better than MH.

I'll get pictures up some day, I just really don't have anything very impressive right now, apartment living sucks.

I have a cheap tri band panel from htg... 120 one watt diodes. that thing vegg's and clones better than my friends 250W MH!!!!!! i mean it blows it away!!!!!!!! the past few months I've been vegging all mine and his, and he has been flowering all his and mine!!!! hahahaha it's great to have a close freind with a 1K!!!!! hahaha

i'll never veg with anything but LED!!!! and chances are it will be my cheap ass panel to!

yeah veg is awesome with leds
That's sweet guys! Thanks for that input. I think I will retire the T5's for awhile when I take remove the LED's out of the flower tent. My T5's are soooo passed their prime, need new bulbs badly but man I really like them. I'm sort of afraid that the LEDs will veg too fast lol. I like the pace of my veg which I can control until I have room to flower.

Just move your plants faster, more bud = less problems.

Lol, that statement is as true as it is untrue.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this statement lol. I can't speed up the flowering times and I'm juggling too many damn strains lol. I have to really restrain the plants once they fill up their cloning containers, then once they transplant from there they start to take off.

Well, it would require shorter vegging periods and smaller pots to flower and finishing in. SOG yo, just and only donkey dicks. Totally illegal, but it is the most efficient way to grow.

It's tough to make something flower faster, but you can make it take up less space.

No doubt! I love the idea of SoG, I could actually do it legally but I definitely couldn't play with so many strains haha. They're like my children and I can't let (M)any of them come to their end lol. Got another El Monstre ready to come down, this one is the best one yet Jozi. She's purpling alot more than the first one and the second one. I've been simplifying my feedings lately. Everything is getting 800ppm water with Jacks Classic, Jacks bloom, Cal-Mag and Silica except the plants within 3 weeks of transplant a little of this or that additive now and again. Straight water with Cal-Mag and silica when it seems appropriate. It seems to be working very well in both tents. I will update soon, the Top 44 is producing what appear to be very good fruits, the best I've had under the LEDs and she is around 45 days.

One thing I've noticed with the the Plants in the LED tent is that they take up significantly less water. I'm careful not to over water and water with more frequency to be on the safe side. A few of the younger plants are approaching the dreaded 3rd week of flower which is the point they've been starting to display issues. Crossing my fingers that the added food, lower power output and added light distances are getting it closer to dialed in, if that's possible lol.
