The supersoil mix is to be used in the final pot, in the bottom 1/4 of the pot, that way as the plant matures the roots grow into the super soil and continues feeding. I haven't had the chance to try a supersoil grow yet, just helping you get ideas. The fresh dirt will offer some fresh nutes but they usually won't last more than a month. So then you'll need some teas or other form of nutes.
As far as wasting nutes on males, wouldn't it be worse to grow a female in inferior soil all summer.....that's like not caring if your kid goes to school or not because you're not sure what he's gonna be when he grows up! Lol. I'm only suggesting organic nutrients because you said you wanted to get away from miracle grow. I would think teas would be cheaper and more controllable than a supersoil mix
