Many times those tax breaks have exceeded the total amount of taxes the company paid. And we do this while they are making record profits. We pay corporate farmers not to grow crops all the time.
So you're correct. I have no concept of the difference between welfare payments and handing over money to multinational corporations except that the welfare payments are less money.
edit - I see the difference now. corporate welfare doesn't go to black people.

Welfare... is one of those things that were designed to help with compassion for fellow humans. The down and out... truly needy.
But, it has become way out of hand.
You know and heard of them. Those who leach of the system.. Because they lack ambition and self respect.
It has nothing to do with race , color, creed or religion.
But, during this election season... be ready for a whole lot of racist BULLSHIT! Revolving around this issue. Both sides of the political spectrum.
We are becoming one of the greatest Nanny state in the world.

I don't think it's out of hand at all. I think right wingers act like it's out of hand so people have excepted it as fact that it is out of hand. But in reality Bill Clinton reformed welfare and dramatically scaled it back. Yes, when the economy crashed people lost their jobs and needed welfare, but that's exactly what welfare is supposed to be for. These people lost their jobs through no fault of their own and now need help.
Funny how the same people who think we should let Americans starve also support the ultra-wealthy not paying taxes. Should Americans really be starving in the streets so Mitt Romney types can afford a private jet?
Actually I think it does. Many people use "people on welfare" as code for black people. It's very much about race.

That is 100% false. Economically we are the most right wing industrialized nation in the history of the world. The idea that we've become some sort of soviet bloc nation is retarded. We keep moving further and further to the right. We've gone so far to the right that today Ronald Reagan would be unelectable because he's too liberal.

I am sorry you guys but Food Stamps are out of hand, to say they aren't is a bit ridiculous in Michigan at least. Anyone can get them now pretty much. One example, My sister has a part time job cause she chooses to(she could work fulltime there), she has her own place and does well, she could pay for her food just fine but she has food stamps just cause its free and instead spends her checks on partying cause the gov pays for everything for some reason.
When people are basically middle class and have food stamps something is wrong when people use them just to buy snacks, have smart phones+multiple computers, their own brand new car, and live in nice apartments on their own and get drunk every night at the clubs.
You know I wouldn't be too surprised if those rich kids in that food stamp video actually have food stamps.

Wall St and the banks scam the economy out of trillions of dollars, millions of people lose their jobs because of events they can not control, and you think the problem is that we aren't letting the people who lost their jobs all starve to death?
That's a nice anecdote, but it's not the case for everyone. Your sister's partying is nothing compared to the parties bankers are having with the money they stole from us.

I could tell some more stories but I don't really care enough to google around for you. I am not trying to argue one way or another just stating that I know people that abuse the food stamp system, lots of them. To deny there isn't waste in the system is as wrong as to deny that the system does some good for some people.

You know one person. Who is your relative. If you're so upset about it, turn her in. The rest is just your idea of how people live who are on welfare/foodstamps. When you make claims like this then yes, statistics or facts are required. Otherwise you get responses like mine calling you out on your shit.
