First Grow, Blackstar 500, 32x32x60 Grow Space
So first off, thanks for all the help from everyone here at rollitup. Its one of the most informative forums on the subject.:leaf:

Why I'm Posting:
The reason for posting my grow here is to get comments and critiques and help along the way. I will keep current pictures of the grow so you can be informed of the progress.

The goods:
32x32x60 tent
Blackstar 500
Foxfarm ocean forest soil
Green House Big Bang Fem seeds

Week 1 Description:
I started 6 seeds in a shotglass of water and left them in a dark warm place for 24 hours. I planted them into plastic cups and put them under 18/6. 4 of 6 seeds popped ground after 2 days and one more after 3. One seed did not sprout. I started the light at 9" from the soil and was able to keep temps from 65 - 80 degrees when the light is off and on. I am using a 6" 240CFM exhaust fan to keep things cool and keep the air fresh. I believe they are looking great.

Week 2 Description:
Week two was a little touchy. The first two true leaves started curling under almost 180 degrees and they were getting brown. I think this was my fault as I had put the light 7 inches from the tops and the humidity was around 15-30 percent. I think this light is a little to powerful to be put that close, even thought there is very little heat. I have adjusted it throughout the week so that it is now at 14 inches above the plants. The new foliage has stopped curling at this height. I am also using a humidifier to bring the tent to about 50 percent humidity The leaves look a lot better now. I transplanted to 2.8L pots on day 11 and also added 1 drop of Superthrive to the water. The seperthrive seemed to add a quick boost to the overall growth. This morning I also found a bug. I got rid of it but I think it was just a brown lady bug. There is a picture of it next to a cotton swab. So overall I think things a going well now.

Does anyone have any Idea why my leaves are turning rusty colored like in the pictures. I thought that it was because the light was too close but I am having these issues on some new foliage as well. I have not used any nutes yet so its not that. I also have my water at 6.5. Non of the leaves that have this are falling off but some are brittle. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think you can have a light "too close" as long as it isn't burning the plant and obviously an LED light 7 inches away wouldn't be doing that.

Just an update. Things are looking promising. Although there are some rust looking spots (which im still not sure what it is from) they don't seem to be spreading very rapidly. One of the plants has turned dark green and was looking overall a little droopy. I decided to water with nutes yesterday and today they are no longer droopy but the one is still dark green. I used foxfarm grow big and big bloom 1.5tbs of each. I will post pictures soon

I would hold off on the nutes, until they reach 3 or 4th internode. Oh, I read that LED should be 12-24 inchs from the canopy. I did 12 and it works awesome. But they looking nice, I have a couple Big Bang seeds I wanna use after my Kosher Kush is done.

Rust looking spots are most likely to be a type of mildew/mold. I had them on some of my outdoor plants (not cannabis, just flowers and such) and picked some of this up from my local hydro store and it killed it practically overnight.

Thanks livid. they were on the 5th internode when i gave em nutes and that was a few days ago... they are looking good now imo but I will post some pics here in a few hours. For the led it is 18" right now.

RATS!! really it mold? will that stuff be safe to use on cannabis? howd my plant get it so young? When you say kill it you mean it wont spread right... cus it looks like the damage is done on some of the leaves. the ones that have it are getting crunchy.

Week 3 Description:
Week 3 was a bit easier. The new foliage is coming in nicely. I'm not sure exactly how to count the nodes but I think there are five if you don't count the stem that goes into the dirt. The rust spots have shown up in a few more places. I have gotten a suggestion to spray with fungicide but I have not done that yet as I am not positive it is fungus. I have a microscope on order so I can get a closer look. Iv got the light raised 18" above the tops just to make sure that they do not get hurt by the LEDs raw power . I fed them some Foxfarm Grow Big and Foxfarm Big Bloom 1.5tbs of each a few days ago. Iv read that the Big Bang strain can use more nutrients then the average cannabis strian. They seem to have liked it. I think I will repot soon to the final 5gal and possibly flip to 12/12 in a week or so. I put the last weeks picture next to the recent picture so you can see how much they have grow in one week. Let me know what you think of the progress so far.

Today I picked up some fungicide called "No Powdery Mildew" and sprayed all the leaves. Sense im not sure what is causing the rusty spots I thought id try it.

Hey, nice set up. I too have noticed some leaves turning rustt on me and getting dry and crusty. Sub'd to see if you resolve your issue.

Good luck!

If the led is too close then the plants will not grow. As for the rust, did you add lime to the ocean forest?

Couple reasons for the drying leaves.

1. High or low pH, but yours seems fine ~ 6.5- 7.0 in soil
2. Too much intensity for age of plant- solve this by moving this light ~ 18" from canopy. 500 watts is at least 400 watts too much for a young plant.
3. Pot too small- as seen by root development. Roots are fighting over not enough soil/nutes.
4. PPMs too high, especially for small pot. This will burn up the shade leaves

All easy to fix.
Do so, and you should be good to go.

UPDATE:
I transferred the plants to their final home, 5 gallon smart pots. I don't have room for all of them so I picked the best 4 plants to transplant. I left the fifth in the middle to be more or less a test subject. I watered thoroughly with about 350ppm nutrients and 1 drop per gallon superthrive.
