this is why i would prefer a shotgun to a handgun.

and i agree with what you said about being ready to use it if you're going to rack the pump. i slept outside towards harvest and the axe was comforting, but not 100% so.
In that situation, NEVER be 100% comfortable. THAT is when you will get screwed.

Seriously though. I think a person should have a few revolvers, a few autos, a few shotguns, and a few rifles......+ lots of ammo.

From a quick search, it appears taht i sort of mis-spoke on the rolling block. That was a feature initially introduced by Remington on their rifles. The actual term i was thinking i was referring to is a "hammer block" safety which can be found on several makes including Remington and Marlin rifles.
What ever it's called I've wanted to by a rifle. Something like an M4 or M16. I just don't want it to discharge with the fucking safety on, you know?

Well, the closest you'll come to an m16 is an AR-15 but i don't think there's a hammer block on either.

A Marlin 336 (most often chambered in 30-30) has one as do many Rossi's.

Killed American soldiers in Germany, blew up passenger planes including one over Lockerbie Scotland
Invalid.

1) He was not proven to have been involved.
2) Even if you could, the government of Libya paid huge sums in damages to the families of the victims. Case closed.

and if you dont think so you are a pussy
the question syncos asked is if it was justified.

i personally feel that the only justified taking of a life is your life versus theirs.

so, if someone has a gun pulled on me, my wife, my family, then yes, it is justified.

if someone killed my dad, i would not be justified in seeking him out and killing him, that would be vigilante justice.

pitch forks mobs and the like are something i can not support.

Aquabuddha,

How about all the collateral damage ( innocent civilians) US soldiers killed in the last three years, because Obama lied and didn't leave Iraq first year like he promised? Are those families justified in killing him?

Keeping in mind that our government (and many others such as Japan, Eurozone, etc.) cannot even pay down their debt at next to 0% interest rates... Imagine what it will be like a couple of years from now when inflation causes interest rates to rise. Tack an extra 5 to 10% on top of our 1.6 trillion $ annual shortfall and what do you have left? The Fed stealing all of your wealth in the form of currency printing to allow our government to pay back worthless paper with even more worthless paper. This shit has got to stop. For the love of the greatest country in the world, come November, please don't vote for whoever has the best haircut or whoever can read a teleprompter like a mofo... vote for an Economist. Vote for the man who actually HAS a plan to fix our problems. Vote Ron Paul. Or just stock up on Guns and Ammo because it's all fun and games until there is no more wellfare, no food stamps, no unemployment benefits, and people start looking for their next meals... whever they can find them.

I'm not saying war is justified. It's never justified. The only time you can attack is if you are being attacked or about to attack. No one has attacked us since Pearl Harbor. 9/11 was a few psychopaths who take the arab version of Harry Potter too seriously.

So we should defend ourselves. Less of them would have died and less than the 9/11 attacks. Our actions since then killed many more than died on that day, of our own too.

Bush has nothing to do with right now. It's Obama's mess. He promised what he couldn't remotely come close to doing. What's worse, he's not even trying. All he cares about is posing half naked so he can apply as an exotic dancer in Vegas and attempt to become the next Tiger Woods.

Next year I promise to constantly bitch about President Romney and never blame Obama again. I'll just be happy his Ginger ass will be gone.

Shot gun, specifically something easy to maintain and use. Remington 870, Mossberg 500 are you main go to choices. Proven, reliable, used by the military so you know they are tough. Personally I would get a mossberg , use buck shot. If you have an intruder you shoot to KILL, not wound. A wounded guy will come back with friends with the intent to kill you, or he will sue you blind. I don't know if Oregon has a castle doctrine, if it does you are good to go.

Mossberg makes some great shotguns, you will probably want a rail on yours for a tactical light attachment. something like the rolling thunder or a thunder ranch are good ones...

rolling thunder

a cruiser is very portable and fairly easy to conceal.

Is there a better shotgun? Sure, winchester model 12 and model 97 are both better, especially in trench gun configuration. but they haven't made them for 50 plus years and they cost too much, but they are the best pumps ever made. Most will have been shot millions of times before the first failure.

Model 1897 trench

Model 1912 riot

The 1897 and 1912 have no trigger disconnector, if you hold down the trigger they will fire with every pump. You can get all 6 shots off in under 1 second if you are quick. Starting price for a 97 trench that is in really good shape? $3,000-$4,000

You can get a plain Jane field model from Mossberg in 12 gauge for $300, same with the Remington 870 express.

When giving your statement, post-incident, you were NOT shooting to kill but rather "shooting to cease the threat". Otherwise those damned lawyers will paint you as one who was just WAITING for the opportunity to take a life.

good point. Say you were afraid for your life and your wife's life and had no choice because he looked like the intruder was definitely going to kill you, crazed look in his eye, maybe stash a knife on him etc etc.

Better yet, get a Saiga 12 gauge with a 20 round drum mag instead of a pump. Reliability of the Russian AK with the firepower of a shotgun + 20 shells.

Buckshot is no joke at close range. There was a guy in my city who drew a 12 gauge on a guy, loaded with buckshot. The intruder taunted him and proceeded forward after being confronted with the shotgun. One shot hit him in the neck and took his head right off. The guy defending his home (in New York) surprisingly got no jail time even though he caused a bloody massacre.

Saiga 12 would be awesome, unfortunately they are considered assault weapons in California and are banned.

Yea, California sucks for gun owners. Somehow they are worse than New York.

Of course pumps are some of the most reliable guns around, so you could always just throw a drum mag onto a pump shotgun. I'm not sure if that would conform with California law though. 20 rounds of buckshot would be icing on the cake for a home defense gun though.

On a side note I'm planning on buying a few more "assault weapons" here in NY for that reason. They are a great investment.

just looked up "castle doctrine" for my neck of the woods, apparently i'd have to prove an "imminent and deadly threat" before using deadly force. also, if an intruder injures themselves while trespassing on my property, they can sue me.

by this logic, i can't even lay trip wire!
