Normal as defined by the person saying it. Could be a man or a women but it's a foul word which I don't say very often.

To me, the word "cunt" is as offensive as the "N-word" is to black people. It's a word that's exclusively directed at my gender and has no relevance to any personal characteristics other than being a woman. It's basically saying all a woman is is her vagina, like saying all a black person is is the color of their skin. (Before I get 10,000 responses about other examples, it's just a common one people hear. I know there are other oppresive words besides "cunt" and the "N-word" (I don't like saying it. Or typing it. It's rude.) No need to give me alllll the other similar words.) But anybody can be a dumbass, or a bastard, or a fuck face. Words like cunt are meant as derogatory statements towards women alone. Yes, you can say it to a man, but when you do, you're comparing him to a woman in a way that's meant to insult him...and what does that say about how you feel about women?

Is it purely the meaning or also the perceived vulgarity though? From my short spell on this planet it seems perfectly acceptable for a girl to call a boy a dick or dickhead etc.

I consider swear words in a way to be similar in a way to racism, anything can be deemed racit depending on the way the person on the receiving end takes it. It's quite a murky shade of grey. I could call someone a prick or a twat, but i am in now implying that all they are is walking talking genitalia, I am using the words as a point of emphasis. We as a society are long beyond swear words and obsenities being used for their true definition, just as a strong form of emphasis or manner of airing the state of frustration they are feeling.

I think that there is nothing wrong with any swear word, it is all to do with context, and these days they are rarely used as a serious means of describing someone, cunt can be used both positively and negatively and due to films, media etc, should be taken more lightly than assuming they must be using it as a simple manner of saying "you are a vagina and nothing more"

There's a comedian I like, british guy, who was talking about how the word cunt has a dirtier connotation in America than it does in the UK. IT doesn't always have something to do with women. Guys call each other cunts all the time apparently. Like april (i think) brought up a while back, someone might say 'I'm gettin cunted tonight!' to say I'm getting fucked up tonight, or 'I drank too much last night...I'm feelin cunted', meaning I feel like shit.
Maybe a Uk'er can confirm and correct the lingo? I think I'm pretty close though.
In French it means idiot. It was used by Chaucer in his Canterbury Tales. Shakespeare played with the the word cunt int a few of his plays (gotta love wikipedia).
