fertilizing the plant

I have done alot of research but no where does it specify the following:
1. the preferred NPK ratio? --every website has its own opinion. I bought a 20-20-20 ratio for the growing stage. is this ok?
2. for fertilizing..how to? --should i put the fertilizer directly in the soil and pour water on it or should i be mixing the fertilizer with water and spraying it on the plant itself? and i know it should be done slow..but what does slow mean? once a week? twice a week? fertilizer to water ratio?
thanks for the help. and for the harvesting stage what is the prefferred NPK ratio.

20-20-20 is fine for veg. i feed mine every 2 weeks but i also have a nute stick in the soil. u deffinately dont wanna spray it on the plant but yes u mix it with water n apply it to the soil. go about half of wut the directions say maybe less. slowly introduce it to them u kno, gradually giving them more n more each time. for flowering u could try somethin like 5-10-10. idk if thats a real ratio but u get the point right? less nitrogen n more phosh n potassium. harvesting stage? no such thing but u do wanna stop giving them ferts about 2 weeks before u are going to harvest n also flush them real nice. hope this helps

Rule number one, DON'T overfertilize. I mix my 20-20-20 about half strength with water and give it a little shot every other week. I dont pour on leaves but you could. I supplement mine with a little epsom salts, no more than 1 tbsp./ per gallon and no more than one feeding a month. Your container should have mixing directions for Fertilizer. Mine is about 1 tbsp. per gallon and I do about 1/2 that. For flowering you want something with the 2nd. number higher, miracle grow makes some as do others.

thanks for the responses guys. i would read the directions on my fertilizer but its in chinese. i live in china. i cant read chinese. anyhow...i followed your directions i have only fed it some fertlizer about a week ago, but it seems my the leaves on 2 of them are dieing and the others are showing signs of the leaves about to brown. i did not overfeed fertilizer and am still doing water once a day. sometimes ill skip a day if it seems the soil is still a little moist. the plants are about 1 month old now.

The standard rate for liquid fertilizer is usually around 5mL per litre.

When rollinbud said 'half strength with water', he didn't mean 1/2 fertilizer:1/2 Water. He meant half the dosage ON THE PACK: 2.5mL per litre of water, for example.

If your plants are turning brown, after feeding them, you've probably over-dosed the plants. I would (based on the little info you've given), JUST use plain water for a while, and see how it goes.

You should flush the soil with plain water if the plant looks brown and sick, to wash out some of the nutrients. If you've tipped pure fertilizer on any part of the plant OR soil, you need to flush it ASAP: Like, immediately, and don't feed it again till It's at least grown a few sets of new, healthy leaves.

NEVER pour PURE fertilizer on ANY plant: It'll kill em like weed-spray.

IN any event, from now until the plant stops looking brown and sick, STOP all fertilizers: Just use plain water.

When you DO start feeding them again, (which shouldn't be for at LEAST 2 weeks depending on how the plant is looking) mix your liquid fertilizer at a rate of 2.5 mL per litre. At 4 weeks or so, vegetating plants don't really need much feeding, and like I said: If you've burnt the plants rootzone with fertilizer, it'll take a week or so to start showing signs of recovery.

2.5mL/Litre of water is half the dose of MOST typical fertilizers, and without being able to read the chinese mixing instructions, 2.5mLs is the safest amount you can really mix.

Do you have any photos of the plants?

It's the only way for us to really get any idea what might actually be going on.

Also, if you've burnt due to overfeeding, you'll probably find the PH will have plummeted. DON'T TRY TO FIX THE PH! Just flood the soil with plain water: Tap/spring/filtered water is usually on the high PH (Alkaline) side, which will help balance-out the low (Acid) PH the soil is bound to have right now.

Either way, take a snap of the plants, and upload it. If it's what I think it is (Nute burn), then every moment matters. DO IT!
