So this baby has been flowering for about 20 days... its under 6 42 watt cfls's with can reflectors... i topped it a week before flowering but something strange happened. When i topped it at about 5 nodes i waited a week and still no new growth was happening besides the leaves growing out wider..(no new 2 tops like i read should happen). I topped 3 total and the others topped and gre 2 new heads each but they were male.. So now its a month after the topping and 3 weeks into flower and there is clearly no new growth going to happen on the main stem. So the lower branches came out and up for light and they r now my main colas which would have just been side nugs... I sorta lollipoped the bottom 4 or 6 nug sites and kept the best 4 so now it looks like i have a thick 5 inch stem (main stem) with 4 stems commign out the side and they r growing straight up into what looks like 4 colas... is this gonna turn out good? It looks really good and healthy besides its odd circumstances... do u think ill get some fat colas (for cfl's)? thanks guys!

Yes my lights are at the top of the plant... and a bit of side lighting for now.. i might add more later but i didnt really ask why the side shoots grew out when there was no more upward growth on the main stem, i just more want to know if anyone has seen this before or if an expirienced grower can tell me it will turn out good or not... ive just never seen a plant with a 5 inch main stem and then side stems become the colas

When you 'top' a plant, that stops the main stem from growing further and allows the 2 side branches below the cut to take over as main colas. This gives you 2 main colas whereas, without topping, you only have one. It sounds like that is exactly what happened with your plant, meaning it did what it was supposed to. Unless I misunderstood what you are asking, your topping process has worked just fine.

yes you can. all you have to do is well taking care of the Cannabis Plant :D . what spectrum are this CFLs ? Maybe get a HID if you can. It will improve your setup if you put a hps for flowering. BTW your plant is topped :D . Peace!!! Cheetah

when you top it you have to let it veg out first before you get results. You topped it way too late, the plant stops growing after the first two and a half weeks of flowering to produce the buds veg stage stops.

Tito, topping is an advanced technique that is performed by professionals only. you must first acquire discipline and patience before you can execute your strategy!!

dollar is right. u can remove "bad" leaves that show signs of growth stress, ie. yellowness, brown spots, holes, etc. this will eliminate the plant from feeding that leave and will also allow more light to penetrate to healthier leaves, but to chop off whole sections as a rookie is just stupid.

Tito, I still don't think you understand what topping does ... the plant doesn't grow new 'heads' (which can only mean the main stem turns into 2 by your description), topping is done so that the side branches below the cut (where you 'topped' it) will take over as 2 main stems/colas. Normally a plant has 1 main cola, which is the main stem. A person tops a plant to stop the main stem from growing further. When the main stem is prevented from growing anymore (by topping it - [cutting it or pinching it]) the two branches immediately below the 'topping point - the cut or pinch' will then take over as main stems/colas. Understand? Your plant did what it was supposed to. There is nothing wrong. Your other plants might have appeared to grow new heads (as you call it) if the two branches below the cut (the topping point) were very close to the cut. That would make it seem like it was the main stem splitting in two when actually it is just the first two branches below the cut. I hope you can understand this ... I've tried to explain twice now but it doesn't seem like you are getting what I'm saying.

ok ativas thank you fo your help i am a true idiot. i did not know the correct definition of toping.. i believe i actually fimmed my other plants and actually did topp this one correctly... but vandala this is my 2nd grow and and just an expiriment, so to say cutting off the lower 1/3 of the growth and stems on the main stem which is an advanced technique called lollipopping is stupid is just stupid.

No worries Tito ... every single one of us had to learn everything we know - one way or the other. There's nothing wrong with making mistakes or misunderstanding something, it's all part of the process. I'm with you on the 'advanced techniques' thing ... all I can say is, there is a lot of bad information on this site so be careful. Don't get me wrong, there are knowledgable people here and good info, but, some days the amount of bad info (or should I say, inexperienced info) I see here is astounding. Enough said.
