a few years ago i got my legs tore up by a dog and i couldn't walk for a couple weeks because the swelling constricted the nerves, and one of my arms was the same way. i waited till 11 pm and did my shopping at the 24 hour supermarket so i could use the scooter and not feel bad about hogging it. i was also concerned that someone i knew that was unfamiliar with my injury would see me and tell everybody what a lazy hypocritical asshole i was. just looking at me you would just think i was a lazy pudgy person. it took me 15 minutes to get from my car to the scooter, and i made sure to call ahead to see if the scooters were "broken" that day. i would never tie up one of those things if i didn't need to, especially after that ordeal. it's bad enough having the limited mobility and then feeling the burn of pity-eyes, but to have to then wait around for a scooter so some lazy turd can glide around like an asshole would have been ridiculous.
i honestly haven't seen a young healthy looking person on one of those around here in years. it's frowned upon by everyone i know. i also see very few people parking in handicapped spaces without the placard. i've seen more than one concerned citizen bitch out the parking spot hogs. it's weird when i think about it because this is otherwise a very rude place to live, but i've seen a lot of overt defense of the handicapped.
