My computer geek friend told me that if you click on links that take you off this site then "they" can get your ip....he said just to be safe if you cutnpaste the link in the browser window and go from there it breaks the chain and wont record as it hasnt been directed from the target site...he said that is how they are busting ppl on you-tube....that there is a group (of do goody-good fukwads) that sets this up to suck u in by putting links in comments to you...u clik... and when they think they have evidence they fax /mail it all to your local leo"s...with your civic address...........wtf! any ideas on that?

The odds are few and far between, they cant track all the ip's that are thought to be suspect.....there are just simply to many people online.

Yea but what if someone on youtube puts in their description, thanks rollitup! (with link) and leads them here? There's grow journals and I'd bet my left nut some of them aren't legal.

When you click on a link your browser is supposed to send a HTTP referer (the URL of the page with the link "https://www.rollitup.org/legal-edge/516655-links-tracking-u.html" for a link on this page) to the site you are visiting.

In the case of clicking a link on youtube the HTTP referer will tell the website what video you came from. Your IP will be revealed to the website regardless of how you get there.

If they are preforming trickery with a scripting language like java all bets are off.

I've not heard of this happening but I don't click strange links without due caution.

If you are really paranoid just use The Amnesic Incognito System.

I used to run a little webserver that I used to host pics on other forums, and I've used my web-logs to mess with ppl's heads a few times.. (Usually younger girls on IMDB who thought they knew how to remain completely secure when infact over time they had been continually dropping info that on its own would be harmless)..Basically though, that is a security hole for sure.. I mentioned that here ages ago..
