are T5 lights worth it?

ok thank you. I am thinking of a 150 watt hps/mh. what do you think the price jump in electric bill would be a month?
Just get a 400watt dimmable, and dim it down to 200watts to start. The price difference between the two is prolly only $30, and when you're ready to upgrade to more light, you just gotta flip a switch.

You'll eventually try both if you're serious about your growing. T5's and HID is essential equipment for the serious Cannabis amateur/enthusiast.

Its funny, growing is just like a hobby for me. I am using CFLs for lighting. I just wanna find a light that I can use just to get better thicker buds. but also wanting to keep it simple.

nothing about growing big beautiful fast returning bud is simple! but if you want to keep it really simple go HID all the way thru and some fans to keep the temps down. get a high bay fixture wire it up, hang it high, and watch them suckers grow!

I would also recommend a dimmable 400 or 600w digital ballast. LUmatek is my vote and worth the extra money but ipower works as well.

Have you had any personal experience with the iPowers? I was thinking about picking up a 250W HPS from them, but its always hard to pull the trigger on a name I haven't heard a lot about.

You can flower with them just fine if you know what you're doing.

compare your dry weight to someone who used a hid of the same wattage as your t5

i use 2 23w cfls from walmart to veg with for like 2 weeks. then i switch to hps and start flowering.

Well that's easy to do since I have a 2000w HPS room and a 2000w T5 room. We have been doing side by sides for quite awhile. If you know what you're doing with T5 and know how to build a par spectrum and not just using "2700k" bulbs you can build nice dense bulbs and low heat and energy issues.
