Need suggestions on cooling my grow?

Didn't mean to imply i was getting a 6" fan, was describing wher ei was going to put it, about 6" above the lights, 8-1ft above the plant, that 4" duct fan will do just as i want.

Will be going in a few days to get the fan, cannot afford it right now :)

Messing around with the fans a little more though, i can feel warm air coming out of the top fan, only cool air out the top/side fan, so that one will be taken out when i upgrade to the 4" duct fan, and a piece of cardboard put over the other hole at the top, gonna use this as a peep hole. This should do nicely. Temp is around 97F right now.

I'll look into the fish carbon filters, do they work well for the price ~$10 is good. Do they have them at Petsmart?

After looking around on the site at growing pictures etc, i want to say my grow is on the slow side of things, i'm 1 week in, and it seems to be very green/dark green and very healthy (you can actually see hairs on the top sides of the 2 leaves as of now), but just seems to lack on the speed
of the growth, is this primarily due to temp, and is this high temp actually stressing the plant?

Again thanks for the help.

haha man dont get a 6 inch thats way to much power for that box, the in line is a lot better then a cpu... and a 4 inch can max out higher then the box needs... for a 6 inch you might even get your box sucking in

i suggest going to a pet store and getting the fish carbon fliters, cause they come in bags that fit perfectly into a 4 inch tub right on the end of the scrubber and they are 10 bucks for 3 lol

i wouldn't keep the hole at the top so it draws air from the bottom and not the top

and the holes at the bottom if you have 3 that big should be enough, if not cut them a bit bigger but i doubt it

yeah they are at petsmart for sure, look around though cause they come in different sizes

could be a lot of things slowing down the grow, not just temp

best way to keep heat down with cfls imo are just to keep a small fan with a good strong breeze on them. i have 2 fans, one on the lights at all times when they are on and my other fan to have a good air circulation going in my room

im not understanding your fan setup.....you should have a fan at the base bringing cool air in and a fan at the top pulling the hot air that has risen out...its also good to have another passive intake at the base....it sounds like your fans are just pushinaround the air that is in there,,,,,

their only 12. bucks for ten Newegg.com - MASSCOOL FD08025S1M4 80mm Case Fan - Case Fans

all you do is stack a few of these fans they screw right to each other then hook both of then to the same 12v do that for the intake and exhust
dude...great find......im about to order 10 of these things and run them off of 5v adapters.....stack 3 at a time for great airflow and no sound........its cheaper to buy 10 than to buy 2....

here we go again....

I dunno why but with the number of adjustments trying to cool my chamber explaining it with everything i've tried just dosent do it justice, intake fans on the bottom do nothing, period for me. Output fans on the top do some....not much. I have 2 cpu fans, i've tried both at the top as outputs, 99F. I tried 1 pushing bottom as input, 1 pulling top as output, didn't really budge under 97F.

As they are now.......No fans pulling air in, holes in the bottom, 3 of them 3" in diamater. AT the top i have 2 3" or 80mm CPU fans both pulling hot air, as hot air rises.......i can feel suction down at the bottom at the holes for intake.

One person suggests to do something the next suggests what the person before told me not to do...........

So which is it?

I have to wait till later this week before i can buy the 4" duct fan, or i can figure out how to use the 2 cpu fans i have and cool the area.........Which i've been trying to do but to no avail, its still fk'n hot.

I have a 8" circular desk fan blowing onto the box hoping mabey it'll draw some of the cool air in from the bottom but now its at 101F. WTF.

sorry dude.......i misread the last post.....i took it as you were covering up your outtake and using it as a peep hole........has the co2 worked at all.....

how are your lights mounted....a fan dedicated to just the light is another way to bring down some degrees........i was having 95 plus temps and just a fan for the light brought me down to 89.....and my space is about the same size as yours

dude you need more fans fans for in and fans for out get more air. and unless its 100 degrees out side your box this will do it. if you use only the two fans you got it dosent mattet what or where you put them you will still get no cooling. i dont know how else to tell you

I modified it again, hopeing this will do it.

IF this does not work i'll be getting some plexiglass and trying to seperate the air from the lights and the plant.

My lights are on y splitters in sockets, if the light sockets are parrallel to one another. The fans are blowing perpindicular to the lights, blowing across them. Output fan is picking that air and blowing it out on the other side of the lights.

Tell me about it bro, i know its not that hard to cool an airspace but damn.....The plant will be fine till i can get the larger fan, but i just don't understand why its not working, i'm moving alot of air up to 45cfm, and its doing nothing really....its simple basic physics.

Well 30mins later and the change i did, well it did nothing......did peak at 99 though and currently 96F a few minutes later, hopefully it will continue to fall.

This is a pain in the ass though, i knew it was gonna be warm, but and shouldn't be nearly this hard to solve, its freaking air. Temp only dropped to low 90's when i had my AC blasting in the apt, i was cold, cold!

I put pics earlier in the thread, did you read the whole thread?

To update after the cooling period over the night, Temp is at a solid 87F.

I figure that the enclosure needed a few hrs to cool down to give an overall lower starting temperture, its gone up mabey 10 degrees from the time it was off over the night.........seems fine though now.

I hope that picture is readable.

Well after the last change i made temps are at a consistant 89, though still a little high.

Also had another seedling pop up on me, about .5" tall or so, Though color is quite a bit lighter.

right on bro.....always keep in mind that pot plants are resilient....they grow in some really shity conditions...i went and looked at my neighbors grow the other night...he is running 1000w hps in a 4x4 space...no ventilation....1 oscillating fan and nothing more....the friggin room is like 100 degreesin there.......but his girls are doing great...2 weeks into flower and no signs of heat stress....

Thanks for keeping track of this thread....

Over the last few days i've been monitoring the heat after my last modification, with a air funnel for the output fan direct in the cross space between the lights, the 4 of them, i'm at a temp of 82F, outside temp in mid 70's, has been on for 13hrs. I had anohter seedling poke out the other day and it seems to be on a slightly faster pace than the first.

I'm going to wait until tonight for update pictures, as i noramlly take them around the same time (trying to get in a scheduel myself for documenting). "The first child", i'll call her, i do hope it is a she!!!!, seems to be going very well, as i can see 3 leaves are in the 2nd nodal triad (3), or are they branches? (for lack of a better word, i'm not honestly sure what its called, i'm no botanist), but the center leaf is coming in quite nicely, the pair is almost the size of the 1st node pair (2), the leaves on its sides (branches mabey), are about a 1/8" long or so. Very green, though lighter green in the center where the new growth is happening.

I do hope i'm back on track for a nice consistant growth, when should i be investing in a ONA? and when is it proper for LST?

I have an 8" pot, i do plan on topping the plant before it gets very tall, max i have to work with is 18", not including the pot for a topped more bushier growth, and LST like latices and ivy, spiral lol. I do know its possible to use that topped cutting as a clone (either doing it inside or transplanting it for the hell of outside), which in that case, you would need a female. To presex the plant how would i do this, Obviously 12/12 but reverting it back to veg to top it?. Would just changing light cycle from 12/12 to 18/6 do it to revert it back to veg? I only want to top if i know shes a girl.
