When an HPS sits flat on the floor...

Thank u... And I thought someone said contractor, not contactor--- Yes, those r definately advisable, and the little plug in ones for a table lamp, with a current carrying capacity of like 10 or 15 Amps sure do cause alot of fires when they r overloaded, as I have seen all too much as a wireman... But there r even better ones, like the kind I use, that we use in huge warehouses, and in industrial facilities, that u dont just plug up... The magnetic coil contactors I use actually have to be mounted inside of a large enough electrical box(like a Hoffman box of any size, depending on how much space u need), and controlled by a time clock, or multiple time clocks and controls for independant switching and specific timing of different ballasts... The ones u show r ok though...
I agree that if you know anyone with electrician skills that you can trust, just ask them about your setup. A second opinion even. Good things to know are how much ampage your circuit can take, the circuit that the light is plugged into. I had to have someone show me.

Running a HPS light in a cool-tube with no fan attached its remarkably stupid, the heat cannot escape, it's why people dont run fully enclosed HPS lamps.

Youre EXTREMELY lucky considering the heat would've built up way more than even a bare bulb on the floor AND youd all that shit on top of it too?
Im not sure people are understanding this was an accident and that usually I run my HPS ^above^ my plants with a 5" exhaust fan as opposed to on my carpet.

sorry if It was misleading folks.

Naw, I dont think anyone misunderstood man... It was a simple mistake... We generally all keep our lights hanging up above our canopys, and not on the floor...lol...;-) Hell, I dont even use exhaust with all mine, and still manage to keep my ambient room temp at 76-78 deg F, with good ventilation and ac control... One doesn't HAVE to have an exhaust on their lights if one can control and maintain temps...

Mystic I have great respect for you for being able to admit to making such a mistake...I think maybe people are failing to read your entire post. As a matter of fact, I wanna thank you because if I ever have a situation, like this, come up...my first task will be to unplug everything! ;-)

nps amigo :) we are all human eh. I mean the other day i opened a pack of rolling backy, held on to the cellophine wrapper and chucked the pack of tobacco in the bin. I mean ffs, am I an anti-cannabis advert on legs? If like me you are prone to this sort of stoner behavior...checklists are your friend hehe.

Aye i should add that my little contactor is ok for a 400w hps, I think, but Im not sure it is capable of handling anything bigger. Ganjagod seems like you have some great know-how on the subject as you work with electricity, glad your giving it some good discussion, appreciate it man.
