nowadays they/most are just crosses. Lush is a strain at f4's and looking very stable. And it only took me a little over two years to get here. But when i got back and look at my notes i have achieved and still am achieving my ain. i don't see why new breeders dont take the time to stabilize.T has a couple of strains he's been working on and refining. Lush is at least an f4 I believe. Dizzle has been refining for pineapple Cindy.
But yeah I was thinking the big breeders not stabilizing strains.
Exactly joes romulan not true romulan you cannot get true romulan anymore in seed even if it's cross bread back to romulan it will never be true romulanThese are romulan from seed. Rommy is not clone. Wasn't worried about clone only's 15+ years ago.
This is Joe's romulan he has.
See it was easy for me to run enough seeds to find candidates, because i run a perpetual and i pop 10 or so seeds every couple of weeks and have grown out many phenos in the f1 and 2 generation, a few from the 3 and now i'm running the f4's and the look exactly how i wanted em too. So far. it aint as hard as they sell it to be.Are Joey and Reeferman even around anymore? Backcrossing takes multiple generations so it does take a lot of time. Tryna I'm not saying you need a warehouse to do a backcross, but you do need a decent sized garden, not the equivalent of 400w and a few plants. You do need a selection of males to cross with a clone to get a suitable male. You can't get that usually if you're only using a few plants. You might get lucky and get a good candidate, but it seems like you're just going to be settling for the best candidate of the few you popped. The breeders I like don't just sticky any old male with their females. But yeah, I'm guessing the reason why TGA doesn't take more time to do stable backcrosses is that it takes several generations of growing to do it and careful selection. I don't have any interest in doing backcrosses at this point or breeding. I just want quality strains or crosses that I can get a good clone from... so IBL makes no difference to me.
really?? u breed and get what your looking for?See it was easy for me to run enough seeds to find candidates, because i run a perpetual and i pop 10 or so seeds every couple of weeks and have grown out many phenos in the f1 and 2 generation, a few from the 3 and now i'm running the f4's and the look exactly how i wanted em too. Ah yeah I have considered doing perpetual SOG but if I get busted I don't want to end up in jail for 50 yearsSee it was easy for me to run enough seeds to find candidates, because i run a perpetual and i pop 10 or so seeds every couple of weeks and have grown out many phenos in the f1 and 2 generation, a few from the 3 and now i'm running the f4's and the look exactly how i wanted em too. lol dont worry about it i get what you are saying. It doesn't take 3 packs on TGA strains and they're not IBLs. Many find keepers in just 5 packs. It's all about the genetics that go into it and selection, not necessarily whether it's IBL. There's a place for both of course. Take my favorite breeder TGA though -- I'd rather try their crosses of new genetics than have them focus their limited time on making their crosses into true breeding IBLs. There's not a great reason for them to do it financially as it just makes it easier for someone to make knockoffs of their seeds and sell them. If I can get a keeper from one 10 pack, that's close enough to IBL for my purposes since I'm just looking for keeper clones. If I lose the cutting and TGA keeps their quality up, I can always reorder a 10 pack to find another. My garden takes up too much time as it is -- I don't need to spend time trying to breed or make seeds. I'm sure I represent the more typical customer of most breeders. The problem is a lot of breeders don't put the testing into crosses before they release them like breeders like TGA do. Not trying to ra-ra TGA as I'm sure others are as good they're just the one I favor
My point. I like crosses, Just want something that when i throw it down i know whats coming up.As a collector of heirloom vegetable seeds, I'm gonna have to side with IBL's.
Just for the mere fact that I want to know exactly what to expect out of what I plant each time. That's (in my opinion) the whole point of selection/selective propagation.
Some thing that breeds true is invaluable.
Now that being said, everything has it's place in the realm of our hobby.
Like Sensei said, it's not a concern for him-he's got a system in place (like many of us) that suits his particular needs and goals. There should always be crosses out there to have fun with and obtain new experiences.
That's all life is, a melding of experiences. What have we gained if we don't experience all that we can?
Kinda went off track there...
So, anyway, hey guys!
