First time growing, quick two questions?

  • This is my first time growing and please note that I am NOT trying to get some meaty buds or anything special. I am just looking to keep my plant alive and let it do its thing. I germanized my seed for 3 days (wet paper towel) and planted it this morning, 6/13 around 11am. It is in a paper cup and will get about 9 hours of sunlight a day. Here are the question(s).

Once it is time to move it out of this cup, I will be planting it in the ground where it will get a minimum of 12 hours of sunlight per day.
It's in a 12oz paper cup which is a bit smaller than a red party cup. How will I know when it is time to move it into the ground?

I am trying to get it to that point as QUICKLY as possible, so I was wondering if during the hours of the day, I can have it in my windowsill drinking up the sunshine and at night throw a 23watt 65k cfl over it until morning the following day?

Please remember that I am trying to get this to grow

Yea, my first grow was with cfl's only. Marijuana is a really strong, resilient plant and will grow under just about anything. If your moving it outside soon then just one 23 watt should do, which I believe is comparable to a 100 watt regular bulb. 24 hours of constant light will be fine however I always try to mimic nature as much as possible so a 18/6 cycle would be better.

Ok sweet! I guess my question was if it would be harmful to the UNSPROUTED plant, to switch it from daylight to cfl every day until its time to be planted, and how tall would that be...

put the cfl 1 inch away from ya sprouts or they will stretch like fuk and it could stress them switching lights, make sure u dont burn them in the window

When the plant is about as big as your cup is when its time to transplant.

when the plant is about 3-4 weeks old slip it out of it's pot and look at the root system. it won't really disturb anything. and the rootball should hold together and not fall apart in your hands. i like to transplant about the time the plant has outgrown it's cup. and that depends on your growing conditions. but to be sure...look at that rootball first.
