Help me troll thieves

she's a long time resident of the neighborhood, too. their kids used to hang out together until she caught the kid at age 10 stealing from the local grocery store.
i can't really talk to the parents without her.

i'm not living in fear. i'm simply keeping my guard up and trying my best not to give us growers a bad name or escalate the situation. this isn't the same as if they stole my lawnmower or grill, cannabis carries a huge stigma, even in a liberal state like ours. there's no option but to take that into account.
besides, are the cops gonna put the kids on house arrest? can i trust that the parents will keep the kids grounded 24/7 all summer? can i discount the possibility of other thieves?
i'm stuck with my decision, like it or not, these kids or other thieves. many security measures and deterrents are in place. i just want to handle this in a mature, responsible fashion that does not escalate things.

haven't read the rest of the posts but you could set up some tie lines (snares) and attach bells to them inside the house, easy to do causing no harm, on the the other hand you could do the same using razor wire and fishing hooks, don't lay them out all over the property just around the plants that way when they get snared chances are you'll be able to get to them in time to catch them red handed. minimal bodily for them with a scare thrown in and if they do cut themselves up escaping before you get to them chances are they won't come back, also they'll have to explain why they need stitching up to their parents when they have to foot the bill???
If they were my plants I'd wrap them in fishing line and hooks each plant anchored to the other with lenghts of razor wire every few feet just so as they would learn a lesson they wouldn't forget for a good few years, In my mind thieves don't deserve any compassion as long as they're old enough to know right from wrong.
Like I said I haven't read the rest of the thread so if this isn't an option simply tie fishing lines to each of the plants and attach a bell to each line atleast then you'll know when they're robbing you and you can go out and confront them and hopefully scare the shit out of them.

like I said I didn't read the whole thread was just typing aloud, I was in a similar situation not long back and tied lines to the shed I was growing in and put bells at the other en in the house I ran the lines from the door handle and down the door until about 2 foot above the floor and then ran the lines up to the house, the bells acted as weights so I didn't have to tie them off like a trip line but when the property was crossed and the line was moved the bell would go off and if they crossed the garden going for the shed the bell would be pulled clean out of the window making noise letting both me and them know there was no more than a few seconds between us.
It saved my crop as I chased them off a couple of times but unfortunately due to the size of the garden I never got closer than a few feet of them, they stole from neighbours houses and sheds and had several attempts at my shed but luckily the fine fishing line and bells gave me the notice I needed to stop them entering the shed and stealing anything, also every time the bells were pulled out of the window the dogs went mad which I also believe help deter them, even still they made several unsuccessful. attempts
