Growing in a house share with friends:What is their liability if caught?

Hi guys,

I've been growing for a little over a year now in student accommodation in my trusty PC case build but soon I will be moving into a house share with 5 of my friends. One other grows in a PC case, two know we grow, and two know nothing at all. One of the two that know we grow is, only recently, voicing concerns about us growing in the house. He feels that if we were to be caught, we would all be evicted from the house.

I feel as though they would have total deny-ability, its in a PC case, in my own room which has a lock, how could they of known? However, I have no legal knowledge at all so my opinion is somewhat invalid.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Or any knowledge on the subject? Im in the UK if that makes a difference for laws etc...

It's risky.. I wouldn't let anyone near my house if i were growing.. Friends are the ones who steal your shit

Never underestimate the power of the law to do you any which way including sideways.

Do not risk housemates unless you unanimously acknowledge and share it. Use the jury standard: even one "uh, maybe not" is a veto. cn

The ones I know can definitely be trusted, they wouldnt turn me into the police or steal from me ( I wont have enough worth stealing, maybe 2Oz every 8 weeks?)

Unanimously acknowledge the grow and share the weed do you mean?

Are there any steps I could take to give the others a leg to stand on? Unless I can come up with a way of giving them immunity, one guy will not let me grow and that means I may have to go weedless for a long time:(

If 1 dude knows about it and does not want you to grow, there may be an issue right there. I do believe all that live there should know what is going on and approve of the risk before even considering getting into it.
I don't think there is a way living there you could get off without knowledge of it growing there imo.

Even in a pc case? which is very well stealthed with no light leaks/no smell leaks

If someone gets caught breaking the law inside that house the landlord would boot all of you on the spot. With that said if there are a couple of people there that are not ok with it look for them to move out quickly and rat.

Besides, doing stuff that puts others in the line of fire is not a good thing to do regarless of what it is.

If one of my roommates was doing this without my knowledge and got busted and dragged me into it, I would be pissed. The hard part would be proving I had no knowledge of it.

Share the weed? Only if that's what you arrange. But if i lived in a shared house and was tossed because a mate had a grow about which I did not know, I'd be visibly upset. <edit> like Chiceh said at the same time~ If one guy says No, I would have to accept that and get your weed the old-fashioned way. I realize that in the UK that's pretty pricy. I remember college housemates .... no end of compromises, often negotiated with more heat than light. cn

I know a guy who rents properties and he is a real dick. He never gives back a deposit and has all kinds of bullshit written into the lease. He told me that no one can follow a lease to the letter and not only does he keep their deposits, they usually owe him money for fees etc...

Guys like him would not chance it and would throw everyone out.

I do not have a thread or article concerning this, but I would not chance trying this with someone not cool about it. People like this are trouble.

Edit: Trouble with a capital "T".

Ok thanks for the advice everyone.

My plan is to bring my case along and test the water. I'll wait and see how much the landlord is around/ how often he will be in the rooms before growing and if there is even a tiny chance it will get spotted (Last year I had monthly bedroom inspections and they didnt spot it), I will chuck the case on ebay. My pesky roomy has agreed to this although im pretty sure he will be able to find doubt even where there is none.

It depends...when the cops burst in are you willing to stand up and say, "those/that plant is mine and these guys had nothing to do with it!" I have to have this talk with my husband...It seems to me that they won't drag everyone in when one person is willing to say I did it!...I could be wrong though...

I would definitely do that, these guys are my friends and I wouldn't try and get myself out of trouble by getting them into it!

Then I feel that they are reasonably safe...the cops in my area are usually happy with one willing arrestee, as opposed to 2 that are fighting...

they may not turn you in to the cops but get a few beers in them they won't be able to resist braging about how nice your plants are and how you grew the weed there smoking you can't tell anyone and yall may get evicted but you'll be the one with charges but if it where a secret you would never get busted

doesnt matter if its in a shoebox under your bed growing in a house that other adults live puts them at risk and u
like if they find out and turn u in or want u out

what u are planning is selfish just ask all the others if they say no then its no
