General Indoor Gardening

Hey!

I love gardening and would like to learn more about indoor vegetable gardening. It would be awesome to cultivate some vegetables at home but every website, every forum, every guide that I see about indoor growing is about marijuana
Not that I mind it but would be nice to learn one or two things about other plants like lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, etc, aswell.

Are there any forums, websites or books that you could recommend me checking as for growing indoor vegetables?

Thanks!

I would think that growing mj and growing vegetables is basically the same, only diff is the type of nutes you use. You can grow vegs in soil or hydro. The lights would be the same MH for veg and HPS for bloom.

I have a indoor garden (non mj kind). What kind of things would you like to know?

Also you don't need MH or HPS to grow with. Herbs deff grow under even a single 13w CFL for a 2 foot to 3 foot square area.

Well mostly, what kind of nutes do you use and exactly what kind of lighting should I be getting considering Im gonna be growing about 2 plants each of jalapeno, lettuces, tomatoes and maybe cucumber?

You wanna use organic nutes since you are going to be eating what you grow. I my self have 4 different liquid nutes. I have Insta Green (3-0-0), B-1 Thrive (1-1-1.5) , Super B+ (0-2-1) and Prop-O-Gator (0-3-2). I use Insta green and 1 of the other 3 in different strength depending on what my plants need. When I feed my plants I feed them using only 1/8 to 1/4 strength since they are in hydro and I can give them more if they need it in small amounts more after that. Some people use water soluble 20-20-20 but that's not what I would use.

You can get away with using CFLs but if you want you can go the route of using 50w or 70w MH lamps or a mix of 1 MH lamp and some CFLs. Depending how you wanna grow them I would recommend growing the pepper and tomato plants in DWC or RDWC due to them growing faster and they can have bigger root ball system compared to soil.

I have grown lettuce in soil under a CFL witch did good but it was more of a hit and miss experience for me since it was my first time growing it.

a full spectrum of nutrients. MG is probably a good start but choose the one that you can find at a reasonable price. are you growing in soil? if so it needs to be healthy soil with lots of organic matter in various stages of degradation. that will give you the best results IMHO. you can grow organically in hydro. Humboldt sells humic acid made from leonardite that is 100% organic. soil or hydro.

Yes its smart to have a full spectrum of nutes so that you can tweak the feed your giving them to get the best result then using a 20-20-20 feed only. Like what was said about soil you can go with MG. Alot of people say its bad and such but the truth is if used right you won't have any problems. I use MG for growing in and I haven't had any problems and I am happy to use it. Just because the higher priced soil is there and is better doesn't meen its the best out there. With the right research you can make your own high send soil for less. Also if you buy nutes that can be used in Soil and Hydro the better.

If you wanna make an organic soil for a decent price.

Toms and cukes need 13,000-15,000 lux, the peppers would do ok with that. You only need 5,000 lux for lettuce.

The whole time I was growing pot I as too paranoid to post a grow journal. I'm using my grow closet to grow bell peppers now, and wanted to document the grow because it's something I always wanted to do.. I couldn't find a forum dedicated to anything but MJ either, so I created one. Even if I'm the only poster there, at least I've got a spot to post my grow journal now :D http://www.litgarden.com

I've just joined www.litgarden.com and will be posting my gorw journal on there aswell as here. I am starting a new grow, growing on super hot and popular chilli peppers. It's going to be on a fairly large scale as I'm am growing just to harvest the seeds so sale, so any help and advice will be received greatly.

To anyone who is interested in growing chilli's this is a site from a company in the uk who have a good forum http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/forum/index

Hope that helps someone
