Can you legally hit someone if they're stealing from you?

Kill the perpetrator so they won't have a testimony against you. Half your normal legal problems should be gone in the aftermath. if you can keep quiet, you could go one step further and compost the evidence. Who is going to miss a thief last known to be breaking into your property unless they're in on it?

just get your shit back man.

They didn't take anything, but that's because I caught them redhanded. They tried stealing a bunch of random tools that aren't even mine and my lighter. I went upstairs and knew they were sketchy so I hurried down and one of them had a bag covering it and I told him to uncover it. He said nothing was under it for at first but I didn't back off and told him to tell me. All of this just brought the issue to my mind. Cause what if someone already has it fully covered and won't let you search them or tries to get aggressive, it's morally wrong NOT to be able to hit them or pull out a gun (with a warrant).

You must be young, don't be letting people kick it at your place..young people are ignorant..keep it a few close friends and nobody else.

Look up your local laws, in a place like Texas, you can shoot someone for stealing your property or breaking in, this counts for your place of work, car, and home.

Just last week a man was shot for stealing less than $30 in a tip jar in texas, the man running the food car that shot the other guy was let off as he was in the right.

Say someone takes something from your own house and you notice it happening. If they play stupid or refuse to give it back, can you forcefully take it back, even if it means hitting them, without getting in trouble? I mean, what are you supposed to do... let them leave knowing 100% that they stole something of yours and then call the cops? Not only would that take way too long, giving the thief time to hide/dispose of what they stole, but it'd just be a huge pain in the ass. And you never might get your shit back.

Citizen's arrest.

that story is weird. he had something under a bag in YOUR house/apartment and wouldn't show it to you? i don't know what the actual law is but if you were to actually knock his teeth out and police became involved (doubtful since thieves don't usually call the police. dude quite likely has a warrant), i don't see what his defense would be. if you say you told him to leave, he would be trespassing. if you say he was stealing, then he could be charged with theft. it depends on the laws of your state whether you are allowed to use physical force in these situations. if you know the law, it's all in how you tell your story. but seriously, what kind of thief calls the cops because a victim kicked his ass? i wouldn't even be worried for that fact alone.

Depends who you are and where you are. General rule is do not thump thief, assault is a crime. Many view stealing a sweetie and thumping people as the same thing. It's not allowed, they make no distinction, it's breaking the law. In some countries they will chop your hand off for stealing 1 sweet in others the law enforcer will psychologically shrink you trying to provoke you. Which is fucking Stupid as it's human nature to get angry if someone punks you. But apparently you're meant to become Jesus if it happens to you Or rich.

Nah I live in CA my friend had his credit card info stolen by this guy we knew, anyways he found out and put a stop to all of the fraud and the funniest part was when the guy who did it came over pissed and called my friend outside then me and my boy went around to the side gate and waited for my friend who went outside to land the 1st punch then we both ran out and helped beat the shit outta the guy, then when he was laying in a bloody pile in the driveway the cops came and arrested him after the "honest" statements we gave. What a great day that was kick the shit outta a thief then get him arrested since he was the one that called my buddy outside in the 1st place, LOL!!!!! It was fun to watch dude get picked up by his shirt collar and slammed head 1st into the concrete driveway while begging my friend to help him it must have been cause they were both black he didn't think my friend would help him with a couple shots in his kidneys while he was crawling on the ground.

Long-term friends are allowed inside. Everyone else stands outside. I haven't played in the soil for sometime now so right now I don't care, plus, I'm moving.

I've had some issues in the past where I've let people in my home out of the kindness of my heart, served them dinner and let them pass out in my favorite chair, only to have them take pictures of my home to plot an invasion. I had a few game systems stolen and our TV. I felt so betrayed and violated that I don't let anyone in anymore. Even friends who I've known for a long time, if I know they aren't totally together, I won't let them in. I especially, will not let a junky into my home.

Last winter, I'm pretty sure some "friends" snatched our kerosene heater off my porch. They stole my heat source and have enough balls to come to my house and smile in my face. Like they can just hide the evil of stealing someones heat source in the middle of February deep inside their convoluded minds.

If I am reading this right it is a friend that is at your house, you know for sure he stole something (first make sure you are right not a hunch) that is the part that would bother me. But with that said if I knew I was right, 100 percent, that person is not leaving. He can give it back or im taking it. Now with that said if I am wrong I am going to have to pay the price for what ever action I take.

Which means if we fight and he does not have it, I fucked up and I am going to have to own up to what happens when he calls the po po.

I would weigh the item stolen, if it is like ten bucks or some useless thing I would just never talk to him again. If it was something worth getting locked up for than that is dif.

I don't allow anyone in my house I don't trust. If I don't trust you and you come to my house you stay outside.

Yup. Fuck, even if I trust you you still aren't coming in. Eat my food, smoke my weed, drink my wine, acting like the man or woman on my Sofa and then when the lights go out shit your pants.

I had someone I considered a brother And one day he was here sitting on my sofa drinking my beer and smoking my weed. He had the nerve to say I should be paying him for his friendship, he meant it too. I often still get emails from him trying to be all jokey. Nah mate.

beat the hell out of him, expecially if you cought him stealing in your house.let him call the cops because when they arrive tell the cops that he broke into your house and you cought him loading up on things.you told him to stop and he came at you in an aggressive way so you were in fear for your life.friend or not its in your house.protect all of your belongings.
