do ur buds weigh more if u cut down a week later than u should

i know ur thc degrades if left to long. but all in all if u wait as long as u can, will your buds have more weight to them?

let say i cut down a nug at week 10 that nug would weigh 1.2

if i cut the same nug down in week 12 that same nug would weigh 1.7?

does that sound right?

Cheers

They will gain potency and possibly more weight but it depends on the strain. More amber = more CBD if you wait longer but my plants usually get to a point where they don't show any more visible growth but start hardening up. Density = weight! I wouldn't recommend more than 50% amber.

No simple answer.
Depends mainly upon strain and grow style (especially considering flushing in soil) or weather indoors or outdoors (with the light being more tied to nature).
However, why would you be aiming for weight? Surely quality is the main aim.

More amber = more CBD
Wrong.

Meet the Cannabinoids - http://www.sclabs.com/education/the-cannabinoids.html

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
The most abundant and widely known cannabinoid in marijuana, THC is the cannabinoid responsible for the main psychoactive effects patients are familiar with. The compound is a mild analgesic and cellular research has shown the compound has antioxidant activity. THC is believed to interact with parts of the brain normally controlled by the endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter anandamide.

Cannabidiol (CBD)
With respect to the medical potential of the cannabis, CBD may hold the most promise for many serious conditions. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is believed to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC. Smokers of cannabis with a higher CBD/THC ratio are less likely to experience anxiety. CBD may also inhibit cancer cell growth

Cannabinol (CBN)
A psychoactive cannabinoid that comes about from the degradation of THC, there is usually very little CBN in a fresh plant. CBN potentiates the effects of THC. The degradation of THC, into CBN, is often described as creating a "couch lock" effect.

Cannabigerol (CBG)
A nonpsychoactive cannabinoid, CBG has antibacterial effects and can alter the overall effects of Cannabis.

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)
THCV is found in largest quantities in Cannabis sativa strains. It is currently being developed as a treatment for metabollic disorders including diabetes. THCV has been shown to block the psychoactive effects of THC.

Cannabichromene (CBC)
More common in tropical cannabis varieties. Effects include anti-inflamatory and analgesic.

Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid (THCA)
THCA is the main constituent in raw cannabis. THCA converts to D9-THC when burned, vaporized, or heated for a period of time at a certain temperature. THCA holds much of the anti-inflammatory properties, as well as anti-proliferative (inhibiting the cell-growth in tumors/ cancer cells,) as well as anti-spasmodic (suppresses muscle-spasms.)

Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA)
CBDA, similar to THCA, is the main constituent in cannabis that has elevated CBD levels. THCA and CBDA hold most of the anti-inflammatory properties that cannabis has to offer.

I didn't say that more amber doesn't equal more CBN but it's a fact that more CBD is also produced with degradation.

Yes. The longer you flower, the more weight you will have. This is where the quality versus quantity comes into play. If you let your plants go longer, you'll have more yield, but less quality.

Recent studies have shown that THC levels are the highest when the trichs are still clear. Not cloudy, and certainly not amber.

I've chopped early when trichs were still clear and I've chopped when 15-20% amber and there's a huge difference in yield, taste, smell and especially buzz! Allowing the plant to mature completely is always the best option.

no link, but how's this?

Quoted from High Times March 2011 issue from the article "Trichome Tech - Inside the Resin Factory" said:
For years, K would harvest once the resin heads began turning from opaque to amber, but he's recently rethought his timing thanks to a study by Dr. Paul G. Mahlberg who found that the THC in a resin head is at its peak when it's still clear - not opaque and certainly not amber. Dr. Mahlberg stuck a tiny syringe into the bulbous head of the trichome and extracted its contents, then analyzed it for THC. The result, without a doubt, THC is at its highest before the trichome turns opaque. This makes sense when you think about it: Who harvests fruit when it's turning brown?.....K now harvests at the first sign of opaque trichomes, when the majority on the plant are still clear.

Thanks. I'm now kinda interested in whether peak thc is as important as some of the other things that happen by letting degradation happen to an extent. Similar to curing, de-carbing, etc. Because even though we can agree that thc peaks earlier than typical harvest time, I've smoked bud that was chopped 'early' and have never enjoyed the high it gave me. Be pretty cool to know what specifically does that so it can maybe be prevented or altered somehow.

pix are the best way to get a good answer to this question m8.. without seeing the buds for ourselves, we could guess all day and not really be precise..

i also say yes, plants will gain more weight the longer they flower, but only to a certain point.. the calyxes are only going to swell so much before all growth stops..

lol .. ok .. thanks Racerboy ..I know .. I did my research and I do have my 100x microcope ..

but I was trying to be a bit ironic .. sure THC peak early .. and sure its THC we want .. and that guy can proberbly prooof that THC peack early when thricomes is still clearn .. but I know how I want my smoke .. and its not undevelop young flowers with only/mostly clearn thricomes ..
I want my smoke to be a "stony" smoke that also tast good if possible .. not a young green smoke .. and NOBODY make me haverst at week 6 of flowering ..nobody ... that would be plain stupid .. I dont even have a brown/orange hair yet ..

I dont like green banannas either .. actualy I like em a littel brown as the suger level raises .. I dont see it that diffrent with weed "fruits"

and even tho the Physics aso. of the plant is intersting I realy dont care much .. its the effect that Im after .. and what you call the stuff that make me feel that way I realy dont care ..

well no offend to anybody .. not trying to be a smart ass ..or prove anybody wrong ... just trying to show a point or wiew ..
