Thom Hartmann tells it like it is about the man who ruined America.

This is HIGHLY subjective don't ya think? IMO, FDR was the worst President ever and is more aptly called "the man who ruined America".

Lincoln gets my vote for worst prez ever, similar to Bush in many ways, he achieved some good things but had a really fucked up way of doing it and fucked up the country on the largest scale ever. Also costing more american lives than any war in american history, more than all combined with the exception of WWII. he cost more soldiers, saved fewer people, and left the country in more shit then Bush ever thought of. On the brink of the industrial revolution, the idea of slavery was ending anyways and with in 15 years it could have been ended totally in a peaceful way (with mush less resentment remaining toward black Americans or conflict between the north and south that we still see present today in some places), but no, the federal gov felt it needed to take take advantage of it and extort it to justify a war against the citizens and ideals of "united states" to assert the federal gov as a tyrannical force dictating any and all state affairs to get the control of the whole country into the hands of a few people.

I'm sure this makes me a racist to to all the fanatics on here, but you have the right to be wrong none the less, so carry on.

Here is another example of rightist "understanding" - it goes like this - If I've never heard of him then he can't possibly be anybody and his opinion or presentation of facts can't possibly be relevent.. this is akin to the more popular a person is the more likely that person is "right". Thom Hartmann is one of the most clear speaking and thinking liberals of the bunch - it is unfortuate that he chose to present this piece in the way he did.

FDR was the greatest president ever, who restored America to the place where average people could succeed and earn a better life. Socioeconomic upward mobility is the American dream, it has only been a reality when people are free from want.

Your signature is absolutely right, that is why the rich supported Ronny Rayguns so adamantly.

Reaganomics = Trickle Down!

Lincoln did not start the civil war, the rednecks fired the first shot after being told they could not secede from the union. Matter of fact they were attempting to secede before Lincoln even took office.

Did you learn this version of history in a southern school?

Has any President changed since Reagan?

Presidents still look after the rich, start useless wars, shrink the middle class, lessen freedoms every year, waste tons of tax dollars then tell the working class that they need to step it up.

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!

You DO know that it wasn't "black slaves" that initiated the Civil War? I get it! Everybody was taught that the Civil War was ALL ABOUT slavery. It wasn't the central issue though. Like it or not, the statement you responded to is fairly accurate. Slavery was on its way out and would've been entirely done away with thanks to mechanization and rapidly advancing farming technology. History isn't all rainbows and unicorns and sometimes the truth stings a bit. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that slavery was abolished and the Union victory saw to it that abolition would be enforced. The Civil War left deep scars that still exist to this day. It was very costly in lives and property.

Perhaps you can give an example of Keynesian economics succeeding!
And while you're at it, will you explain why California's unemployment rate is one of the highest in the nation and why so many cities in this state are filing bankruptcy?

Thom Hartmann is certainly not random.
As well as having a syndicated radio and television show he has appeared on Fox news many times.
He is actually very well respected as an author and political talk show host. As a matter of fact I have turned a few Conservative friends on to him and although they dont agree with him, they all like and respect him. Maybe you should give him a try. Its a lot better then living in a reactionary bubble.

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: I'm neither rich nor a Reagan worshipper!:o

I like the quote regardless of who was credited for it. People will never be "free from want". FDR's policies arguably extended the depression, but I digress. We can start a different thread if we want to go into detail about why FDR was or wasn't a great president. I think like all Presidents, Reagan did some good things for the country. I believe he did some bad as well. The same goes for FDR, IMO of course. ;-)
