Seeds stopped germinating.

Hi there.

Cannot find an answer here though I have no doubt my problem is not unique.
I am a small grower and buy feminised seeds in small amounts as and when, so when two of them stop sprouting after the first day and then stagnate for 4-5 days I am not a happy bunny.

Any suggestions? Are they dead or on strike?

I have succesfully grown seeds in the manner I am doing these with no problems and moved them to pots when the sprouts are 6-7 mm, so I know the tried and tested method is good.

Can I plant them and see if light stimulation moves them?

Here is a photo. I have retouched the white sprout to show its shape as it was being lost on the pale background.

Your thoughts please.

Have a great one!

Curlytail.

The towel almost looks too wet. Was that in a bowl or in a bag ? Was it kept warm, but not hot ?
This is a paper towel. I can only reiterate that it's a method which has been 100% successful in the past, and bearing in mind that total immersion in a glass of water if a suitable method of germination, is it possible to get it too wet?

I use the glass of water method and have a high success rate...however I have had the same problem you are showing in your pictures...in my case those ones never finished. My guess is they have decided to move on. Sorry man. Good luck with the rest of them. I dont think you can over wet, however in my paper towel experience, since you generally put it in a plastic sealed container or bag, the heat and the moisture starts to mildew which can be bad, thats when i moved to the glass of water method and have had good luck.

That interesting. I might try that. As it happens the paper towel if between two plates which largely preclude light but not air do mildew hasn't been a problem to date. Okay - looks like the consensus is that the seeds are duff and I will have to start again.

The Germination
Process[/h] The germination of your marijuana seeds usually starts with curiosity, then quickly turns into a serious hobby (garden).
The following is a successful step-by-step process for marijuana seed germination on any budget. It generally works very well.
How to germinate marijuana seeds, cannabis sativa, and pot seeds.
Class is in session, light up and pay attention!
Always be sure that your work area is clean. This includes YOU. Wash your hands every time before working with seeds - it will increase your success.

Nicotine is like poison to cannabis - to both the seeds and the plants. If you smoke cigarettes, it's all over your fingers.

Preparation & Supplies
In preparing to germinate your seeds whether one or a dozen, make sure you have everything you need and that it is also clean. I use so much anti-bacterial soap in my garden that I do recommend it. (hands, buckets, tweezers, shot glasses, etc.)

Pre-soaking Method
For our tutorial, we are using a shot glass, mineral water at room temperature, and our chosen seed(s). We use masking tape and a marker to identify our seeds when germinating multiple cannabis strains.

You can probably use your local water with one caution... Fill a pitcher or a jug with the water one whole day before you will be using it and leave it open. This allows chlorine and other potentially harmful chemicals to escape into the open air before use.

Day One
Half fill your glass with mineral water. We have taken a single seed (female), and placed it in the water (shot glass). Notice that the seed is initially floating.
We have identified this seed and now we need to put it away in a warm and dark place for 24-30 hours. This allows the seed to absorb water. The seed does not need or like any light yet, but likes everything warm.
The cannabis seed simply needs warm air, moisture and darkness to begin it's life.

Select a warm spot that stays consistent in the temperature it offers (like on your water heater). We cover our glass with a dark cup to keep out all of the surrounding light.
Keeping a temperature of between 75° to 85° Fahrenheit is excellent for starting seeds.
Again, leave this covered and warm for at least 24 hours. This will allow the seed to absorb water, and is an excellent indication that the seed can grow.

Day Two
When you return the next day and uncover your glass, you may notice that the seed sank to the bottom (as illustrated). If it did not, have no fear. Try stirring the water with your clean finger. The seed may have absorbed water and still be afloat by a bubble or dry spot (happens all the time).
If the seed still floats, you can add some fresh water* and check back again in 8-12 hours. After that, you can still plant the seed, but chances are slim that it will take hold.

I do the following :

1. Put a paper towel in the bottom of a pyrex bowl

2. Soak it with water

3. Tip it up and drain all the excess

4. Place seeds on towel

5. Lightly mist with a spray bottle on finest setting

6. Place rubber lid on pyrex bowl

7. Place bowl in warm(not hot) location

8. Collect my spouts in about 48 hours

You'll just have to take my word for it ! LOL

I am so good that I got 2 plants from one seed last go around. I had a freebie Dinafem Powerkush that sprouted 2 roots and to my amazement it lived and yielded 2 plants. One is a little runt though.

I prefer my method.

Open pack of seeds.
Open pack of Root Riot.
Put seeds in Root Riot.
Spray and walk away.

100% success.

I've had a seed birth twins also, although not uncommon, it does freak you out.

I would say FAB is right. It must be bum seeds, and as you said before "you have done this method before". As have I, that is all I ever do, is the paper method. Throw them in a paper towel run a little water over them wait for the towel to ALMOST dry and rewet (roughly for 2 days) and it works eveytime although your paper towel does look way to wet, I am not knocking what you do at all, but in my experiense I have got the seeds to wet and kept them covered by the paper towel and the seeds will rot. If you think you might want to throw the seeds in the trash and start again. Crack those seeds open and see if there is any dark colored mushy stuff on the inside of the seed.
