Putting Spider Mites on the Streets

I took up growing a little over a year ago and I take a little pride in turning out some nice dank that while the yields leave something to be desired, the quality of my shit I'm finding to be better than the brickweed schwagg available around here so I'm happy with the results so far ( mostly)
Anyway, I made the fatal mistake of telling my one trusted friend about what I do and its been cool and all, but he decides he wants to do the same thing and he proceeds to try to mimic everything I've done to this point except that he uses crappy Miracle Gro soil and while I use 400watt MH and HPS lights, he opts for CFL lighting, so these things alone have his plants looking spindly and scraggly and not especially great, so anyways he asks me to come look at his grow and in about 5 minutes I inform him that his grow of which contains 15 or so plants in different stages is infested with spider mites. Of course he asks me, what do I do now? I tell him, you can try to battle this, but with all that I've read about it, you might consider trashing this entire grow as hard as that sounds. Well, no way in hell he says is he going to destroy his entire crop so out comes the bleach, Neem oil spray and he takes up the fight ( I inform him that I cannot partake nor will I ever visit his grow room again, the last time I walked into my house buck naked for fear of transferring the bitches to my grow !)
Anyway, long story short his plants take on a horrible stressed out look from the mite damage and from being sprayed half to death and as I predicted, the mites have returned, or more precisely, they never really left, it only takes a few survivors.
He shows me a plant hanging in his shed to dry and I look at it as close as I dare to get to it and you can see the webs in among the buds and I found it just disgusting.
I tell him I cant believe he would put something like that "out there" ( he doesnt smoke himself) he only took up growing for money, I did it to supply the Mrs and myself, and anyway I felt rather strongly about it. A bit of an argument ensues and I ask him if he went to a resataurant and the owner knew he had cockroaches in his food and served it to him anyway, how would he feel about that?
He says people smoke bugs all the time. I say its fucking disgusting
What do YOU think?

yea bugs no bueno period...if he only started for the money he's not about to get any like that...
Yeah, thats the thing, people don't know any better, he asks as high as 120.00 a quarter O and actually gets it. How, I dont know. His harvests are only a handful of popcorn buds and he's lucky to pull an O from each of his plants.

I think he sees me as a killjoy really. He asked me if it was me could I destroy my entire grow and I told him, the more I learned from reading about spider mites, yes I probably would. It would be devastating to lose an entire run, but I would never turn out anything like that but the thing is, mine is mostly for my own use and I sure as hell dont want it that way.
I told him, its up to you but I wont lie to you either, I just think its disgusting myself.

Doesn't sound like he would care very much about the poor fluffy yield, or even know the difference. He doesn't smoke it and obviously doesn't have an inking of appreciation for it either.

Spider mites don't have to mean the end to the entire crop though, I could see if it was a really bad infestation. This is why it is a good idea to take preventative measures, like at the very least a good spray down with Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap, pyrethrins and\or compost tea every once in a while.

I ALWAYS seem to get some sign of spider mites in spring\summer (probably coming in with the dog), but the compost tea really seems to keep them under wraps and pyrethrins take out the rest of them. It never progresses to the point where I see webbing or any speckling on the leaves.

If you have cats keep them away from the pyrethrins, and out of the grow room. Pyrethrins themselves degrade rapidly and don't generally pose a threat to humans or any other mammals. However, an ingredient typically also found in pyrethrin formulations, piperonyl butoxide (used to make the pyrethrins more effective), should be avoided by pregnant women especially those in the third trimester.

U should have advised him to use a good product like mighty wash. It's safe to use up to the day of harvest and is 99.9% water!

You are smart for stripping down and vowing to stay out of that infestation. I hate bringing anything new in and I vacuum constantly. Ceilings and walls too. Keeping down clutter and unused items helps with this attitude.

Oh we're already there. His grow is pathetic compared to mine, and I always thought his were sick looking, and as it turns out, its because they are. All along the way this guys followed or tried to follow the way I do things, but he insists on cutting corners on some of the most important things there are, like the kind of soil he uses and the kind of lights he uses. Will they work? sure, but just not the best, and your going to literally reap what you sew in this hobby thats a fact.

FUnny you say that. I told him, "Join the forums where I learn this shit and tell them your passing that shit right off and see what they tell ya". I read too much he tells me. I dunno, I didnt know jack shit about growing so I had to learn it somehow, and this has been the best way for me to learn. Everything I know and I'm no expert by any means, but I've learned it through reading and learning about others experiences and problems and what they've done to correct them.

Yeah thats no shit, I walked into my house without a stitch on, and didnt go to my growroom until after I took a shower. I sprayed my shoes with neem oil, then I dont know why but I sprayed my floor and halfway up the walls of my grow space just because I guess. But they're a bitch those mites and they do heavy damage to a plant untreated and those webs and shit totally just gross me out.

i knew it!
Well, it might as well be. I mean, he chose to fight these things and all the sprays and shit just stunned the hell out of his plants, and all these dead mites are left behind on the underside of the leaves and it just in general looks like shit all the way around. After I seen that, I think as much as it would pain me to do it, unless I was in the very last stages of flowering when I found then, I would otherwise scrap the whole damn thing rather than go through all of that.

Shoes ??

I am so paranoid, I check my shoes and socks at the door. On the days I vacuum, I get the shoes and the mat too, lol.

I have never seen a mite and hope to keep it that way.

Fuck Spider mites! if home boy tryed to sell me a bunk quarter for 120 id go piss on his grow!
I tell him, and I've been a buyer for over 30 years, his stuff isn't worthy of 120.00 but to him he says " It must be because thats what I got for it" He's gonna mess around and lose the few customers he does have. Greed always comes back to bite ya in the ass sometime. Greed puts people in jail.
